Meanwhile, the Orville is like, largely ABOUT the difficulties of Moclan and Terran norms being integrated, and how...it's not actually worth it to accept bigotry to avoid war? It's bad that this is happening?

it sucks shit that the Federation smiles while the Klingons brutalize people, actually

locar will always be my role model for responding to a child w/ a doll telling him "this is betty! i got her for christmas!" with "that is not my concern". also as a hetero moclan he technically qualifies for gay icon status

The Moclan female arc in The Orville is still hitting SUPER FUCKING HARD.

"The Moclan point of view is that these [female] children are victims, and need intervention [to surgically alter them to male]."

This is the Orville New Horizons quilt I made and handquilted. Dolly Parton appears in a holographic form in "The Orville" season 3, episode 8, titled "Midnight Blue", where she sings "Try" to a Moclan fan, Heveena. #TheOrville #DollyParton #Moclan #quilt #handquilting

Yes, the Moclan story arc is incredible. Topa's journey unfolded so beautifully. Such a touching story.

The Orville hits so fucking hard. This Moclan is making directly out of the right-wing handbook arguments against trans people, but due to the science fiction nature of the show, regarding children they believe should legally require gender reassignment surgery at birth.

Topa's story will always make me cry. As a person who began recognizing that my assigned sex and my gender identity don't align well before I had exposure to the terminology to explain it, I know exactly what Topa is going through and how she feels.

The Orville, A Tale of Two Topas.

Admiral Howland: Please, extend my best wishes to the Moclan girl.

Man, Klyden sucks, but it's also so clear that he has very many unresolved issues and self hatred from his own forced gender reassignment surgery. It's impossible to separate why he sucks from all of the gender stuff and the general Moclan society. It's all tied together.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

I think i’m safe, bring me to women Moclan planet (after it’s sanctioned and protected as a sovereign state, i don’t need the violent part)

They would lay eggs (see Moclan, from the Orville tv show).

There is this...

Isn't that just the Moclan urination from the Orville?

Os caras criando Moclan. Hahaha.

I like how the Orville does plenty of "Wow its from the past" episodes
but they always just go for like, 2015-2020 era, never the 20s or 50s or 90s or pre-1900.
The only two counter examples I can think of are in the simulator with the heterosexual Moclan and on the Kelly-worship planet

I think my favorite thing about #TheOrville this season has been the thematic development of Bortus and Klyden's failing marriage with just how sick of Moclan culture most of the humans have grown.

The divorce is coming.

(I was talking about the Moclan blacksite episode but also yeah in that one too)

Being trans and being intersex. That is a degree of nuance you would never expect from him and I love it! There’s so many questions Seth’s character Ed asks himself about the ethics of letting Topa, a female Moclan, forced to undergo corrective surgery.

Ed rightfully calls out Bortus, his crewmate

The Orville's Moclan species which is thought to be completely male, but very rare females are born and their society will alter them to male.
Star Trek had several gender related episodes. Some good, like TNG's The Outcast, and some terrible, like Code of Honor and Angel One.

Post your favorite Star Trek character. Wrong answers only.

Oh my God! I just watched episode 7 of The Orville and I heckin' LOVE THIS SHOW. I love what they did there. That was so brilliant!
I think that it's definitely one of the best depictions that I've seen about why, homophobia is stupid and dumb and I didn't expect them to cover it with the moclan!

Side note: while looking something up on Bortis and the Moclan species, I also popped onto the Kaylon page and stumbled upon a story spoiler.

I blame myself, normally I'm adamant about not googling anything to do about a new show for fear of stumbling on a story spoiler.

Moclan divorce, if you know The Orville.
