I can't imagine the game running using NES hardware without the MMC5, for the same reasons The Sim City prototype requires the rare and expensive chipset revision.
We could assumes that game wasn't released probably because the publisher didn't want to spend the extra funds for the chip.

Long shot, but did anyone by chance download Japanese game hacker makimuraMFG's VRC7 Family BASIC or MMC5 Family BASIC hacks in the past 11 or so years they've been online? His website is down and they weren't crawled by Archive.

Just converted Doki Doki Panic from an FDS image to a NES ROM. This works by using the MMC5 mapper's ability to map PRG-RAM from $6000-$DFFF. Saving works too which is incredibly awesome!
I've attached a video of the ROM working on the NES core for MiSTer.

I really hope they reuse Sylux's Hunters theme in 4. It doesn't even have to be the full, identical tune, as much as I think that'd be unlikely. I just hope they at least preserve Sylux's original motif!
