I wouldn't count on much turnover in districts, but I will say this.
I live in an affluent, ruby R district in SC.
My elementary kid is reading stories of everyday people resisting Nazis for language arts and a local Christian school is selling tickets to their performance of the Crucible.

the #elasticsearch API docs always had cURL and console examples. a while ago we added dynamic languages (python, JS, ruby, PHP)
now, we have the first static language with java
big API surface so this will come in handy. even if just to tell an LLM "no, use the API like this" 😉

If you read my article on ruby thread interrupts and bitmasks, this will be very familiar! jpcamara.com/2025/10/22/b...
I asked koichi if signals were the inspiration, and he confirmed it. It was fun to see the connection and what can be an inspiration for central language apis!

I donated to the PSF for making this decision. I’m a Ruby guy at heart and a JavaScript developer at work, but I want there to be a major programming language that isn’t Hitlerized.
TLDR; The PSF has made the decision to put our community and our shared diversity, equity, and inclusion values ahead of seeking $1.5M in new revenue. Please read and share. pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/NSF-...

Completelly agree. To me it is a wasted effort because none of these stuff will be mainstream in Ruby.
If I want a typed language with ruby syntax I would use Crystal lang.

It’s interesting to say the least that Ruby, a language that puts expression above all else, is Hitlerizing, while Python, a language for data nerds, is refusing to do so. Another L for the “liberal arts make you a good person unlike the evil STEM fields” crowd

between the stuff happening with ruby and python’s recent affirmation of its diversity statement
we are very rapidly entering a time when someone will say out loud, for the first time, “is this language woke? i don’t use woke languages” and that’s very funny

Rather than spent sympathy, i think a more appropriate statement of condition for Mr. Ory, if he was a typical ruby red Iowa farmer, is language we know he would understand: You reap what you sow…..

It seems I've developed a newfound interest for language servers 🙂
They have just unlocked for me recently. It started with a contribution to Stimulus LSP, afterwards I wanted to fix issues I've been experiencing with Ruby LSP.
Kudos to Shopify for solving difficult problems like indexing 🙇♂️

It is pretty easy. For quick scripting I prefer Ruby, which is also pretty easy. At this point my only major complaint with Python, as someone who only occasionally touches the language, is the enforced whitespace which is pretty minor compared to the inconsistencies that were present in python 2.

Don't like Python. It's popular solely because of some kick ass libraries that were written for it. If I want a typeless "bang something together" language, I will go with Ruby.

You know what came to mind these days? #CoffeeScript. A language that brought some elegance of #Ruby to #JavaScript, and made the DX of writing front end code WAY better. I miss it.
I honestly think CS, as a language, did great, and deserved to be preserved and reside amongst us till these days.

You get the impression from various ruby subreddits that the Nazi CEO's personal fondness for the language is basically the only thing keeping it viable in the enterprise space, which, uh, is not a pleasant situation to be in

Joking aside, if I were to ever leave Ruby / Rails for another language and framework, I would go for Elixir / Phoenix.

Documenting code examples for 8 different languages before launch. Started with #Javascript and #Python, now doing #PHP and #Ruby. Each language has its own idioms and patterns. Which language would you want supported first for a web scraping/OG API?

Ruby community: Look, we can be angry about what's happening, we can raise our complaints, but under no circumstances should anyone _ever_ harass someone's families, coworkers, or friends.
That is completely unacceptable, and wholly against the ethos of the language. We must do better.

Ruby is a beautiful language with some really ugly baggage.
Ruby was my primary language for almost 20 years, so what’s happening in that ecosystem is both really upsetting and really sad.
New: the world of Ruby has gone completely off the rails over the past few weeks. Developers suddenly locked out, corporate pressure, and claims of a "hostile takeover" of one of the most critical pieces of infrastructure for the internet we all rely on everyday

Proposal: move RubyGems (the gem and bundler CLI tools) to the same Ruby org that governs the language itself.
It's an accident of history that Ruby, its dependency tools, and its dependency hosting are managed by three separate entities. (And it hasn't gone great.)

One thing I can say is this is the most fractured and unstable I've seen the Ruby community in 15+ years of participation. It feels like the future of Ruby is uncertain and that is _very_ bad for the language and ecosystem.
