A villain returning is easy.
A mistake returning is harder—and better.

This new d20 table is built for emotional callbacks, not power creep.

What if “the oracle at your table” wasn’t there to predict the future…

…but to mirror back what your players are ready to explore?

That’s the heart of Ealdsmyth’s Stewarding philosophy:

The Illusion of Knowing - MarkEzraStokes.com
Imagine for a moment that you’re in a dark-but-candlelit room, across a modest table from a wizened woman. She squints at oversized cards spread across the navy-felted table, and she begins to speak: “Ah yes… I see a decision weighing on you…” You hang on to her every word. What if this same narrative trick was used at your TTRPG table?

Dangerous GM advice:
Lie beautifully.
Cheat when the story deserves it.
Break things, then let your players rise from the wreckage.
This isn’t “fair.” It’s fun.

Dangerous Game Mastering Advice (Dirty… Not Killer)
“I don’t play fair. Fair is boring. Fair is predictable. Game mastering isn’t about rules—it’s about rhythm, pain, and payoff. These are the dangerous tools—the ones that cut clean when you know where to stab. Not cruelty. Not ego. Controlled violence in the service of fun.”

#GMAdvice: When designing cultures for players to inhabit, the goal should be to muddy the waters, then make the player able to see through the gloom. Culture is obtuse to the outsider, and clear to the insider. That feeling of being a part of the people they come from is key.

GM Tip: Make an enemy more interesting by playing with how you use reinforcements. Budget a couple elementals into the encounter with the powerful mage, which appear when they do their big spells. Or switch stat blocks instead of having a creature die to give it a "second phase".

I am curious to know how many games do you have at the moment and at what frequency? I have a made dm with 5 games, but there is like 3 months gap between session for each of those game and I wonder if other dm are the same.

Players wrecking your prep isn't a bug - it's the feature.

Here's how the unexpected can turn into your game’s best plot twist (and why you should start prepping with chaos in mind):

Chaotic neutral is not a personality.

Everyone may get their fun in different ways, but characters whose only purpose is to be annoying and cause mischief that derails the flow of the session are not welcome at my table.

I tell players not to fill out alignment in systems that have it.

Let’s talk prompts. Not the ‘you meet in a tavern’ kind—the ‘why is the mayor a golden retriever?’ kind. 🐕✨

One of the best GM moves I ever made?

Asking, “What do you need from this scene emotionally?”

Try it. You’ll be surprised what players say.

This die has been the best tool I have added to my GM kit. I use it in any system I play.
Anytime a player asks a question about something I didn’t plan.
I usually have the player themselves roll it. It has created some wonderful moments. I really recomend adding it to your kit.

Your epic campaign deserves more than lore and cool monsters — it needs clear expectations. My latest post dives into the real power of Session Zero and how it could've improved my long-running D&D game. 💬🎲 #TTRPGTips #DnD5e #SessionZero #GMAdvice #RPGGazette #TabletopRPG
Managing Player Expectations: Aligning Your Table’s Vision for a Campaign
We have all been there; the campaign starts from the best place possible, the characters are great, those story hooks are intriguing, and all is good. But at some point, hopefully not too deep in, players feel a subtle friction. One player perceives the combat as easy, another feels it is always vicious. Sometimes the tone shifts and suddenly players are left out of the engagement.
