In Ethiopian 🇪🇹 and Eritrean 🇪🇷 iconography, the Holy Trinity (ቅድስት፡ ሥላሴ፡) is traditionally depicted as three men with white hair and white beards blessing the observer

Had such a great time at the Rendez-Vous Ethiopian and Eritrean Restaurant in Scarborough, celebrating the passing of the Ethiopian Heritage Month Bill. Proud of Doly Begum and Kristyn Wong-Tam for championing this bill, and the community leaders who made it possible.

There is also two robust branches of Orthodox Christianity: Eastern and Oriental. The former is all those above except Assyrian; the latter is Coptic and Tewahedo (Ethiopian, Eritrean, etc.) and other autocephalous churches.

The Oriental Churches are Miaphysite, and you’ll have to google that.

One unsurprising but lovely feature of Ethiopian-Eritrean Christianity is that monkeys occasionally play a prominent role in the stories about the saints 🐒

*sigh* My worry is that my Eritrean SIL in Mpls will get caught up in this...She's lived here since I was 7 (51 years)!

I literally live within blocks of some of the highest concentration of East Africans (Somali, Ethiopian, Oromian, Eritrean) in Minneapolis and let me just tell you, injera bread is to absolutely die for. That’s about the worst thing I can say about their influence on my neighborhood.

A successful morning in the archive, finding
- granular colonial census reports from 1905
- a case involving one of the women I'm researching & her employees
- censored letter extracts from Eritrean ascari fighting in Libya in 1915

Not to mention that a not-insignificant number of people who make small boats crossings themselves have lived lives of unimaginable violence and trauma. I don't fancy Tommo's chances against a bunch of Sudanese and Eritrean former child soldiers or Afghan security services guys.

Incredible @matinastevis.bsky.social story about an asylum-seeker kept apart from her son and family as she ping-ponged back and forth between U.S. and Canadian immigration officials has a telling detail about ICE Air.

Telling an Eritrean that they are being “sent home” is basically a death threat. Some Eritreans deported back to Eritrea don’t even make it past the car park in the Asmara airport

Probably the best place in the world to get Ethiopian and Eritrean food (except, you know) but otherwise inferior to Maryland.

Aside from his native language, the guy I previously mentioned also speaks English and Spanish fluently. I've also heard him speak with varying levels of proficiency
-French
-German
-Eritrean
-Portuguese (I watched him pick that up in real time)

We had to transfer, and the station was full of Eritrean Orthodox members commuting to their nearest church. The kids loved Odin but the moms wouldn’t let them pet him because they’re all in fancy white Sunday clothes and he is, admittedly, a bit anathema to that
