#epicureanism
@mrundkvist Now you got me to look up and discover Epicureanism.

I’ve never heard of it before and that sounds interesting!

"Epikorsim", really? I am amused.
(I'm probably apikoros myself, quite literally in the sense of liking Epicureanism.)

Now I'm firmly checking Platformism, a communist version of Parecon(?) & total liberation. I can't find a philosophy that matches my current beliefs, tho the closest one I can think of is Epicureanism(?)

Socialism or communism would be great names, but there's enough mess around their definitions

Moksha for Atheists really is just Epicureanism chilling out with Eastern philosophy.

i think that the tech guys don't realize they're basically watching (pretty decent) tv, and instead think it's a highflown meditation on stoicism vs epicureanism or something like that

On today's new episode we begin to look at Pierre Gassendi, focusing on the evolution of his thought from skepticism to “baptized Epicureanism.”

& philosophical ideas like Epicureanism/specifically Materialism (not as in money, if I’ve understood, but rather scientific materialism, but please correct me if wrong) EAR did not take to Saben’s philosophical ideas much, apparently lol, yet they were great friends until the former passed in 1935.

theres less modernized text on Epicureanism, but his writing is rather accessible so you can just dive in

this is me with Stoicism and Epicureanism/Hedonism. even in progressive/leftist circles it's hard to explain concepts about the self or internal mastery since it's rare in modern western thought unless you directly go out of your way to look for it (which already filters out the ppl who need it)

Strong Epicureanism vibes.

I wonder, why is the agency of organisms considered a philosophical problem at all?

It seems that #philosophy is trapped in the flybottle of #Cartesianism and #naturalism /Epicureanism. The talk about animals as machines makes sense only against that background.
Each generation seems to rediscover the riddle of organismal agency: are organisms agents that pursue intrinsic goals—and how could we know? Our 📕 gathers historians, philosophers & scientists to explore this debate—now available in paperback!👇 www.routledge.com/The-Riddle-o... #philsky #HPS #evobio

Excellent. I keep trying to find anything parallel earlier than Bayle, but haven’t. Montaigne speculates near the space but not quite there. Marin Mersenne and Gassendi discuss theist critiques of Epicureanism but still not in the “what would a good atheist do?” space. Such a cool thread.

Perusing the philosophies of Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, etc., and realized that philosophy tries to turn "a truth" into "the truth."

There are many philosophy choices: stoicism, epicureanism, cynicism, etc. But there is only one truth, a cucumber should never be brined.

One of the things that the greater left needs to do ASAP is start making a virtue out of cosmopolitanism and epicureanism. Wanting to die without having experienced as much as possible of the world should be seen as a serious character flaw.
The British Right are just in total freefall into savagery at this point

Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight
Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.
