i did a class on cyanotyping, an art project by which found items are placed on specially-treated paper, then left in the sun for 12 minutes, then washed in a solution

on the left are my items, and on the right is how it turned out. i think it looks cool!

Beautiful results! Did you use pressed algae, or were those fresh? I need to get some cyanotyping going at Hopkins.

I first drew the motif with fine ink on thick watercolor paper and then treated it with the cyanotyping agent. The same motif then served as a negative

These are utterly magical. I have been cyanotyping for a year or so - nowhere near this standard - and just wanted to send my delight and joy at seeing these masterpieces

Cyanotyping! Not only can you do it yourself with some simple chemicals, but if you are patient you can do a very similar yellowprint version with turmeric!

this book is really moving, the gradual unfolding of Bo’s artistic inspiration and creativity is so beautifully written. I loved the passage describing the cyanotyping

Thanks Randy. Wet cyanotyping is coating and exposing immediately, whilst the emulsion is still wet. Wet on wet introduces other solutions/materials to interact with the emulsion. In these examples I sprayed dilute vinegar and added baking soda, turmeric and soap suds. Exposure times are longer.

Went to the @phxfilmrevival.com cyanotype workshop this past weekend with @haley.conwaydarkroom.com, and followed that up with some cyanotyping at home.

Experimenting with image transparencies & dry plates on the paper.

Art brain said: wouldn't it be cool to combine photography with painting?

So I'm looking up cyanotyping, which I've never done before. Because I want to superimpose images onto my paintings and fix them there.

So instead of the sun use... a projector? 💡🎨 #art

DAY 11
I took the opportunity to collab with an artist and a longarm quilter to create this queen sized quilt (I did the piecework). It's to be a gift for a super deserving couple. 💙💙💙

Being a restorationist and bookmaker (that's how I end up with a laundry list of professional skills like cyanotyping and digitization) who grew up down the street from the house Bellairs wrote about, Bluesky finally served the perfect thread:
A bit of self promotion. I find cleaning up and restoring books to be pretty therapeutic and this is one I’m proud of, The Secret of the Underground Room by John Bellairs, art by Edward Gorey

This book came to me in rough shape: dust jacket front flap cut out and masking taped…
