My current on-the-train book. Anyone read this series? I read the first 8 or 9 back in the '90s, but now there are 17 books in the Necroscope saga, so I'm starting fresh. Lumley broke a lot of new ground with vampires.

Beloved British horror/SFF author Brian Lumley died in January 2024 at age 86. His books entered my life at an important juncture. I've been meaning to do a publication-order reread of his Cthulhu Mythos material for some time; sadly it took his death for me to finally begin.

What a wonderful collection of stories! It was great seeing all the little things that Harry did alongside the big aventures of the full-size novels. Some of them sweet and simple and others feel like they could’ve been a book of their own.

The series takes a big turn with this book, I’m not reading the previous 10 books takes a bit of adjustment to get used to the new direction in the story goes.

After 13 books of fighting the Wamphyri it seemed appropriate for there to be something new to fight agents. At first I thought aliens was an odd chose that wouldn’t fit. But as has comes so common whenever I doubt Brian Lumley, I was proven happily wrong.

There is rumor going around currently (though I can't seem to confirm it) that Necroscope 1-3 audiobooks will be re-released for Audible UK with new Narration by Joshua Saxon (who narrated several books later in the series)

I found this book suffered middle book syndrome, where it is trapped between resolving the events at the end of the last book in setting up the events of the next book.

I didn't realize #BrianLumley passed away in the beginning of this year. I really enjoyed his #FruitingBodies (a book gifted to me years ago by a dear friend who is also no longer with us) and regret that now I will never get to ask him a burning question I had about one of the stories therein. #RIP

This was a great second half two amazing duology of the lost years. It was really fun to see Harry again, and although Bonnie Jean is only in these two lost year books, she is one of my favorite characters of the entire series.
