I travelled to Sydney (570 miles) for a screening, once.

And I regularly drove like 20 miles for any remotely arthouse release for well over a decade when I lived at home in an area that didn't play anything but the big blockbusters.

IIRC this theater was in Chatham or something like that (Montclair has an arthouse theater too!).

When I lived in the sticks, the nearest multiplex (not arthouse theater, multiplex) was an hour away. I made that drive multiple times a month, sometimes to see Netflix originals.

Fuck this guy

Older big metro areas like NYC & the 5 boroughs are the exception.

Here, on the NorCal coast, the closest movie theater of any kind is a Cinepolis that's 18 miles & 45 mins away... closest "arthouse" theater is 35 miles in SF.

Wanna see a French movie? forget it. And it's always been this way.

I traveled to my local arthouse theater which is farther than much of my usual theaters to see Hamnet.

Glad RESURRECTION is getting such a quick physical release, still furious that the local arthouse only had it for a week

I lived in the suburbs in a mid-sized metron after school and drove 25 minutes into town for the arthouse a few times a month. I even drove almost as far for the nicer multiplex in the tonier suburb because the one down the road from me was pretty rundown

This is the flipside of all those Film Twitter nerds declaring that if you were serious about seeing arthouse fare, you would move to the city.

Prepare yourselves, sit down, don’t take any sips of coffee but…

People in small towns can be film nerds too.

Nacho Libre is almost arthouse. Not what I was expecting.

In life David Lynch was known widely for being the absolute king of weird beard arthouse filmmakers. In death, he is known mostly for his kindness, work ethic, and just being an all around rad person that made films HIS way. And I absolutely love that. What a legacy.

Rest in peace, king.

Crosswalk lights blink red/green like a split verdict. One Nezuko waits, quiet; the other stretches in her shadow, fangs and fury hidden in a calm stare. Extra eyes float in neon smog, judging who dares step too close. 🌃👁️🩸

Yeah, I really liked it. Didn't know it at the time, but wish I had. Nightshift was very interesting. More arthouse, but quite funny...and short!

Truly stunning film - arthouse horror with a budget. Intense as it is deeply human & compassionate. I had tears running down my face at certain points. Very excited for THE BONE TEMPLE but YEARS feels so singular I'm kinda hesistant.

In this clip from INSIDE THE ARTHOUSE, we sit down with the director to talk casting. We start with a question we couldn’t stop thinking about: how do you cast Jodie Foster,an American actor, in a role that’s completely French-speaking?
