i've always loved academia too, until the past 1-2 years... teaching gender studies i live in fear that a student will get me fired for being queer/nb; there are fewer & fewer jobs at universities where i'd feel safe; there are fewer & fewer funding sources for ppl doing research related to gender

My friend, who works as an university advisor in the Netherlands, told me how she had been helping a US disabled trans woman with moving here for studies, and how happy she and her family were when she got accepted and it realy makes me wish that we could open the gates at all the universities.

I'm pretty sure the Reichstag was dissolved six weeks into Hitler's chancellorship. And the Gleichshaltung in the media, universities, etc., hadn't succeeded in only a handful of cases even a year later, with the rest increasingly emboldened against him. These people are fucking idiots.

Nichols, a former Naval War College lecturer who helped design Cold War history courses taught at Harvard, knows better than most how absurd are the defense secretary’s attacks on Ivy League universities. He has the grace not to mention Hegseth’s haircut, which would give anyone social anxiety.
Hegseth, among others, is using the school as a punching bag to express the generic social anxiety and status-based resentment that drives much of the MAGA movement.
