If Reform want to play the 'universities should be at the whim of the Government' game (which is a very dull game to play) then they should at least do the decent thing and fund them via general taxation (they won't).

Reform's Dan Thomas wants to destroy Bangor Uni Debating society because they wanted nothing to do with Reform, on the basis that Universities are 'publicly funded'.

Correction: they are funded by student loans, via general taxation. So if they don't want them there power to 'em!

i've always loved academia too, until the past 1-2 years... teaching gender studies i live in fear that a student will get me fired for being queer/nb; there are fewer & fewer jobs at universities where i'd feel safe; there are fewer & fewer funding sources for ppl doing research related to gender

Solidarity! Virginia's campus workers make our universities great, but many of them can't afford to pay rent or buy groceries.

We are proud to stand with Virginia's higher ed workers in support of passing collective bargaining rights for ALL of Virginia’s public employees.

Japanese Universities Deploy AI to Reshape Job Hunting for the Class of 2027 + Video
🎯 Introduction: A Recruitment System Under Pressure Japan’s traditional recruitment calendar is quietly breaking down. As companies struggle with chronic labor shortages and global competition for talent, the long-standing rules governing job hunting for university students are losing their force. For students graduating in spring 2027, the job search has already begun in earnest, even before official corporate recruitment publicity opens.

Grade inflation is also inseparable from the emergent corporate structure of higher ed institutions. Universities are increasingly purveyors of "experiences" to a customer base (students).

“If our colleges and universities do not breed men who riot, who rebel, who attack life with all the youthful vim and vigor, then there is something wrong with our colleges. The more riots that come on college campuses, the better world for tomorrow.”

My friend, who works as an university advisor in the Netherlands, told me how she had been helping a US disabled trans woman with moving here for studies, and how happy she and her family were when she got accepted and it realy makes me wish that we could open the gates at all the universities.

Epstein surrounded himself with academics and institutions of higher education. He donated millions to individual professors (and often their family members), research, universities, programs, and now it’s all bubbling to the surface. This is going to be eye opening.

Academia is sometimes upheld as a place to explore new possibilities and challenge the status quo. In this eulogy to his Black Aesthetics course, Anthony Kwame Harrison laments the dwindling space for subversive Black expression in contemporary universities.

Age verification?

The internet didn’t exist when I started college. We had an intranet to send emails to different buildings on campus, AND certain other universities across the country.

America OnLine and dial-up BBSs were still a couple years away.
Age verification? [garbled dial-up sounds]
Age verification? I had a Geocities site.

I'm pretty sure the Reichstag was dissolved six weeks into Hitler's chancellorship. And the Gleichshaltung in the media, universities, etc., hadn't succeeded in only a handful of cases even a year later, with the rest increasingly emboldened against him. These people are fucking idiots.

Nichols, a former Naval War College lecturer who helped design Cold War history courses taught at Harvard, knows better than most how absurd are the defense secretary’s attacks on Ivy League universities. He has the grace not to mention Hegseth’s haircut, which would give anyone social anxiety.
Hegseth, among others, is using the school as a punching bag to express the generic social anxiety and status-based resentment that drives much of the MAGA movement.

To this day you are still told that the exact same universities, corporations, and decision makers loudly complaining about “the groups” now were and are the singularly relevant representatives of any belief or movement dedicated to racial equity.
