Day three of my trip was all about getting to Kyushu. I had some time to kill in Tokyo station, so I went to Kaminari Ramen on a friend’s recommendation, and grabbed an ekiben (boxed meal from a station) for dinner. When I arrived in Kumamoto, I was thrilled to take the tram to my hotel.

The crit is mostly in the ALT text: the original aesthetic is heavily stylized but harmonious; clean with flat colors and the takuan eyebrows, overall appropriate to the JP subject. The new rendering style is a mishmash of individually unrelated features and trying to disavow the old style.

Like there are so many different types of Kimchi (cucumber, cabbage, radish) that are pre-made and in jars so they can have more pickle variety. Even Takuan like that’s a whole different flavor. If I was on this show I would constantly complain about the lack of Asian foods

Yeah, nori and furikake are nice but that’s just supplement to rice. Can’t even find umeboshi. They have takuan tho…and all the mushrooms the regular grocery stores don’t carry…I guess I have to take the small win. It was fun tho, and a little nostalgic, they had old toys I grew up with and stuff.
