From what I can tell, there is no real disconnect between his lore before and his lore now. Oko told others about his past, but he is a trickster. The details that do not quite line up could have been fae half-truths. Or just a matter of perspective, how he experienced the events

Sadly, I think it's beyond party lines. Human beings are programmed to believe certain truths and cannot handle realities that are contrary to their programming. This is all a result of needing to believe in certain 'stories.' We are not the 'United' States anymore.

I believe there's a profound concept alluded to here: Entropy explains why things fall apart. Love explains why anything ever comes together at all. Seen this way, maybe consciousness could be the universe experimenting with coherence? It's one of the most inspiring truths I've ever encountered.
