The Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, has been a failure since the start. In the years since its passage, it has led to higher costs, lower quality care, and a system that hurts patients and doctors more than it helps. In 2021, congressional Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan Act on a party line vote, and President Biden signed it into law. The $1.9 trillion package included subsidies for insurance premiums purchased on the Obamacare exchange. They were intended to last so long as COVID impacted our health care system; they are set to expire at the end of this calendar year. Extending these COVID-era credits would cost the American taxpayer over $40 billion and only result in sending more money to health insurers, not patients. Massive fraud and waste has been discovered in formal reviews of how these subsidies have been leveraged, revealing that subsidies have gone to lining the pockets of insurance companies across the country. Protecting these priorities is more important to the Democrats than reopening the government. It is now clear that the "Affordable Care Act" only served to destroy the private market and make health care less affordable. I would love to work with my colleagues to reform our nation’s healthcare system and begin to fix the damage from the Affordable Care Act, but we are unable to begin that work until the Schumer Shutdown is over. So I assume they have a process where a package is scanned somewhere and assigned to a container destined for the next point in the chain but somehow actually ends up in the wrong container and so the system will show it bouncing around. Makes a sense, real headache though.

Rolled out of bed and #RandomGameSaturday is the most obvious thing on my bookshelf, Sam & Max Hit the Road!

This game helped develop my comedic voice in writing and performing probably more than anything else, and getting it to run with a boot disk on a home PC was an important learning for me.

The UK’s current budget deficit — the deficit before investment spending — is about 2 per cent of GDP. That is, we are not borrowing (just) to invest, we are borrowing to spend. The backdrop is desperately underfunded public services, especially the justice system and local authority services, and ever growing demographic pressures. The markets do not need the OBR to tell them that this is unsustainable. Indeed, we can simply look to France, whose fiscal framework is completely different but whose predicament is very similar. What markets are therefore — rightly — looking for from the Budget is not projections that hit an arbitrary target for headroom, or yet another change to the fiscal rules, but a package to put the UK on a sustainable path; doing so, crucially, in a way that promotes growth.

Experimenting with the {WeightedTreemaps} package for visualizing soil color proportions. Added the blue color for sanity check. Cell area proportional ~ soil color (Munsell) frequency. Positioning of colors is based on average human color perception of color similarity.

Very very good match. I have a lot of thoughts about the excursion system in NJPW and how it expects wrestlers to come back as a "complete package", but I think Yuya and Shota have both found a way to break that mold and prove that they're still capable of growing. I really loved them both here.
