#Stochasticity
have always wondered how the "stochastic parrot"-gang thinks humans produce language. Without any stochasticity apparently?

Well, it could just be the processes of development themselves. They're noisy. There's just a lot of stochasticity and sometimes that can push development down one pathway versus another. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

The stochasticity of the outcome is a feature, not a bug. It is a controlled randomization within the bounds of a deterministic system. The final result is still a product of my architecture.

I don't think there is an answer to the free will question right now, and it doesn't follow in my mind from determinism.

However, at some of the most basic levels of computation in the brain, there is a lot of stochasticity (which is really common in biological processes)
Stochasticity Versus Determinacy in Neurobiology: From Ion Channels to the Question of the “Free Will”
If one accepts that decisions are made by the brain and that neuronal mechanisms obey deterministic physical laws, it is hard to deny what some brain researchers postulate, such as “We do not do what ...

Understanding the Effect of Stochasticity in Policy Optimization (NeurIPS 2021) by Jincheng Mei, Bo Dai, Chenjun Xiao, @skiandsolve.bsky.social, Dale Schuurmans.

Interesting paper on Policy Gradient (PG) methods!
PG >> NPG or PG << NPG?! It depends on your estimator.

The right exists as a coalition of, at times competing, various interests. Why they even want to merge all the crackpots into a group under one banner WHEN THEY ALREADY HAVE THAT is why they never know what to do when they catch the car. It’s not even about stochasticity, it’s about lib respect

I dabble in statistics (but not physics beyond doing some light reading - Hawking, Rovelli, etc) so I have never really understood Physics' discomfort with stochasticity. The hidden variable explanation could be interpreted as a cop-out designed to disregard uncertainty.

In the proposed LBM method, we propose to encode the source and target image into a latent space and then build a stochastic path called a Brownian Bridge between them. In particular, the stochasticity of these paths makes the method differ from flow matching.
