Consider our cold-blooded friends this hibernation season, who enter a similar state called brumation. Reptiles and amphibians seek refuge in loose soil, compost heaps, piles of rocks or logs and pond vegetation – so resist tidying or clearing these areas! 🐸🦎🐍

Did you know that every day, the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks full of #plastic waste are dumped into the world’s oceans and waterways?

The #REUSEAct would direct the EPA to conduct a feasibility study on reuse and refill systems in different sectors.

Conserving wetlands and conserving wildlife are interdependent goals.

If we continue to lose them at today’s pace, we risk ecological collapse but if we restore them, we unlock immense benefits for both the planet and people.

If delivered, the Plan could unlock £10s of billions in clean investment, with 100,000s of good green jobs, lower bills and greater energy security.

That’s a win we need right now.

But this fair transition is only in reach if bold action follows.

🦫 Populations of species in Canadian freshwater habitats have remained stable (+5%) since 1970.

BUT "stable" doesn't tell the full story: 52% of freshwater species are declining.

Canada holds 20% of the world's surface freshwater. We must protect it. 💙🌎

🚨 A new mapping of European landfill sites has revealed that around 28% of over 60,000 landfill sites identified are at significant risk of flooding.

This could result in pollutants like #foreverchemicals, toxic metals, #plastics, & legacy pollutants leaching into the environment 👉 buff.ly/3qzpqec

Caring for nature is also caring for our community! Globally, women make up close to 40% of the agricultural labour force. Empowering women and closing gender gaps enhances the wellbeing of women and their households. This is a critical pathway towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.

This, in a nutshell, is where we’re at. All the lies, the distraction, NGO-blaming and drive towards even further deregulation is to cover the naked fact that, in Ireland, big polluters pull the strings and our politicians just nod along.

Reports that Government may exempt small sites from Biodiversity Net Gain are deeply concerning. Removing essential protections only serves to weaken nature recovery.
