Taylor once sailed from London to Queenborough (Kent) in a boat made of paper so as to promote his new pamphlet about paper and how great it was.

(Much of this this consisted of hanging on to a bladder surrounded by some now very soggy paper remnants but he did get to Queenborough)

STADDLE [stad•l] sb. A building of timber standing on legs or steadies, to raise it out of the mud. Poor dwellings of this kind were formerly common enough in small fishing towns, such as Queenborough.

Whilst all the while, stumbling over other snippets, (like a well-worded description of the estuary very close to my own opinion: the lower reaches of a tidal river now bordered by extensive reclaimed tidal flats..)

A nice day's of birding w. very few birds. That's the way I like it now 😇

Queenborough Lines today, aka Canal Bank.
(Dug to defend Sheerness, aerial view @ historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-... )

Today would have been a good day for Norse warrior waders to land, western half mainly drying mud. But birds few and far between.
Best sighting a Clouded Yellow.

PS Met walker on prom who said only discovered Queenboro last week, and fallen in love with town. They'd never visited before, despite living on the island for 38 years (at Minster, 3 miles away). Gotta love Sheppey-ites!😆

I did console her by saying most birdwatchers hadn't discovered it either.😆

Constant calling from Sandwich terns, as young hassled adults for food. All "moving north", but then so was the tide and so was their food..

My highlight? A two-shaft spud barge. (Usually four-shaft spuds around here. I'm sad. I clearly need a 'proper' hobby.)
