(following a sex trafficking conviction, rejecting a Rule 29 argument on sufficiency grounds relating to knowledge of age of the victim, and upholding a conscious avoidance jury instruction on the issue, because the defendant "had sex with her and saw her naked body [.. .] when she was 14 years old [. . .] bought cigarettes for [her], knew that [she] had young friends who were still in high school, and never asked er for her identification"). Here, in addition to the direct evidence ofknowledge of age from testimony about at least one conversation with Maxwell regarding her age, the evidence supporting conscious avoidance would be strong, including the fact that Maxwell had F. to order taxis for because she did not have a license and the fact that Maxwell saw fully nude when s e was only 14 or 15 years old. A fave book 'Healthy at 100' by John Robbins explains how wealth inequality affects the health of rich and poor. (John Robbins dad and uncle founded Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream) USA rebuilt Japan after WWII to an egalitarian society with workers rights, health care, property ownership and salary caps.
Societies in which the pie gets divided in such a way that everyone gets a decent share are healthier because as well as having their basic needs met, people tend to participate in their community, trust others, and cooperate from Mutual benefit. They form friendships they care for one another their friendships are marked by support, trust, and sociability. Of all the nations today, Japan has the greatest life expectancy of Any Nation on Earth. How you may Wonder does Japan manage his Stellar health? A key factor maybe that Japan today is economically the most Equitable of all the world's affluent nations. It hasn't always been this way. Prior to World War ii, wealth distribution in Japan was harshly unequal, and life expectancy rates were hardly better than those of impoverished third world countries. After the war though things began to change when general Douglas MacArthur was given the task of overseeing the nation's reconstruction. MacArthur had his faults but he had been called the greatest population Health Doctor Who ever lived. MacArthur required three fundamental things of the Japanese first was demilitarization Japan was forbidden to have an army second was democratization his staff created the Constitution that is still in use in Japan till this day providing for a representative democracy, free Universal education, the right of labor unions to organize and engage in Collective bargaining, and the right of women to vote, and the right of everyone to a decent life. And the third was decentralization MacArthur broke up the family dynasties that ran huge corporations that had controlled the country. He mandated a maximum wage for business and corporate leaders. He also carried out the most successful Land Reform program in history. Land was purchased from landlords who had a mass two holdings, and then sold the tenants at the same price. The tenants were given 30 year interest free loans to make the purchase. Essentially, he leveled the playing field. His reforms were followed by the most rapid rise in Health and Longevity ever documented in any major country in World history. From a highly stratified pre-war society, post where Japan became a nation that cherished egalitarianism. Meanwhile, in the United States however things have taken a different course since World War ii. At the end of the war there were very few homeless people in the US streets. Even as late as 1970 homelessness in America was still rare. But since that time economic inequality has grown immensely. In 1998 one American achieved the dubious distinction of amassing more wealth than the combined network of the poorest 45% of us households. Today many corporate Executives earn more money in a couple of hours on the average factory worker makes in a year. The wealthiest 1% of America's population owns more wealth than the bottom 90% combined. And meanwhile the minimum wage in the United states, adjusted for inflation, has fallen by 37% since 1968, and become the lowest of any industrialized nation. This Gap has had devastating Health consequences. 45 million Americans don't have health insurance, and many millions more are seriously underinsured. Many Americans face the Financial Risk of Ruin and even premature death cuz they can't pay their medical bills. And of course it's the poor who are hit the hardest. Today in African-American man and Harlem has a lower life expectancy than a man in bangladesh. With only 5% of the world's population, the United States spends 50% of world spending on health care. Yet United States ranks 26 and life expectancy, and 28th and infant mortality. It may be happenstance, but not a single one of the 25 countries that have longer life expectancies in the United States has a great white Health gap between its richest and poorest citizens. History shows that went over inequality of wealth distribution becomes extreme, people tend to become divided against one another, and societies tend to spend less on public health, education, and societal safety net. Large numbers of people feel chronically left out, powerless, anxious, angry, and afraid. In such societies everyone whether they are the have or Have Nots tend to become less trusting of their ne…

GOOD LAW Project Good Law Project 167-169 Great Portland Street 5th Floor London W1W 5PF W: goodlawproject.org The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP Minister for Women and Equalities Cabinet Office 70 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2AS Dear Minister, I am writing to you following the High Court's decision in our challenge to the interim guidance of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. In its judgment, the High Court makes clear that service providers are not obliged to exclude trans people from gendered spaces and services. Trans women may, for example, be permitted to use women's toilets without service providers also being required to allow men to these facilities. This runs directly contrary to the description of the law set out by the Commission in its draft Code of Practice which you are now considering. In the version of the draft set out for consultation, the Commission claimed that a service (including toilets) provided only to women and trans women would be 'very likely to amount to unlawful sex discrimination' against men. But the High Court has said that this is not true. The draft Code of Practice is wrong about the law. It does not explain that service providers may lawfully remain trans inclusive. In those circumstances, you must reject it - or you will be acting unlawfully. Notwithstanding this decision on the substance of the law, the High Court dismissed the challenge. The High Court found that the EHRC's interim guidance, stating that "any single-sex lavatory provided will cease to be single-sex if [trans people] are permitted to use it other than in accordance with their biological sex" had been widely misunderstood. It did not in fact prohibit, for example, the provision of women's toilets which could be used by cis and trans women. This enabled the Court to conclude that the interim guidance was Good Law Project Limited not unlawful. This is despite the fact that many service providers have told trans people they have to be excluded because of that guidance. As you might anticipate, the Claimants will appeal those points on which they have lost to the domestic Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Good Law Project will also support applications to the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg for breach by the United Kingdom of its Convention obligations and a reference to the Court of Justice in Luxembourg for breaching the non-regression provisions in the Good Friday Agreement. If the High Court decision is right, it must follow that the Supreme Court's comments that "a biological sex interpretation would not have the effect of disadvantaging or removing important protection under the EA 2010 from trans people" were wrong. And if they were wrong then the human rights of trans people have regressed. In the meantime, as you are aware, the Supreme Court decision is causing, and will continue to cause, profound uncertainty and cost to civil society and business; grave harm to trans people who ought to feel confident under a Labour government that they can enjoy the same right to live in safety and dignity and privacy as everyone else; and undermines your government's mission of responsible global leadership through a commitment to the rule of law. In its quiet moments, away from the arena of politics, the Government knows, it must know, that the foregoing paragraph is true. And you will know that the Government committed in its manifesto to "remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition and acceptance." I urge you to take all necessary steps, including by legislation which puts right what the Supreme Court got wrong, to meet that Manifesto commitment and to ensure the dignity of trans people and the protection of their human rights. Please confirm at your earliest convenience, but in any event within 28 days so as to avoid the need for legal correspondence under the judicial review pre-action protocol, that you now intend to reject the Commission's draft Code of Practice.
