Not sure what you mean? Out local hospital has private mobile home-type of thing. How do we discover which are part of the pfis

With talk of reviving PFIs under a new name - Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) - now’s a good time to remember what PFIs really cost the public ➡️

💰PFIs aren’t just flawed — they’re an economic disaster!

A defining moment? Only if they actually spend money to improve ordinary people’s lives, not just funding tax breaks for Tech Bros & Hedge Funds in Freeports & stuffing the private sector’s pockets with PFIs.
Whatever, Starmer is forever stained with Palestinian blood for supporting genocide.
How big are these coach and horses that they can be seen from space?

@everydoctor.org.uk uncovering more #scandals in #NHS #contracts & #PFIs it’s all well & good #Rachel-Reeves decrying paying debt left by the Tories, but Labour are proposing MORE PPPs & PFIs for #schools & #hospitals, when NHS is already paying #£29M to PFI contract-holders NOW
November 4, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Absolutely right — PFIs have drained billions that should’ve gone into patient care and staff. The NHS shouldn’t be a profit machine for private investors.

PFIs started under John Major's Conservative Premiership; increased under Blair & Brown &, 1999 - 2007 in the Scottish Parliament, under Dewar, McLeish & McConnell

Not only hospitals - Pretty much EVERY Public Service build from PM Major onwards; Loading them all with budget eating baseline debt 🤬

Fourteen years of neglect and funding cuts. Even before 2010 Blair's (and Major's) PFIs and fines for failing to reach targets were an appalling idea. We could afford to pay for an illegal war in Iraq, but couldn't afford the money to build new and properly staffed hospitals.

Do you know what caused the false alarm? Your hospital sounds very efficient mine is frighteningly inadequate. One of Blair's PFIs.
I take Atorvastatin 80mgs - inherited problem with my liver not dealing with cholesterol effectively.

💷 PFI = A profitable deal for business, a burden for the NHS

PFIs have proven lucrative, for hedge funds + insurance companies.

Our new blog breaks down why PFI was a disaster — and why new PPPs would repeat the same mistakes.

eh, nationalizations are relevant if we're talking about neoliberalism because privatization + stuff like PFIs were common in the more neoliberal era of politics, no?
October 27, 2025 at 8:42 PM
Ordinary members of the public could see that PFIs were a disaster in the making, so why couldn't Blair & Co (yes, PFIs were started by the Tories but Labour embraced them & took them even farther). Who would sign such a deal in any other circumstances? Was there corruption?
It’s easy to lose sight of what billions in PFI debt actually cost.

But behind every figure is a nurse working double shifts, a ward left understaffed, a patient waiting longer.💬

It’s not just numbers - it’s people.

Blair, in the immediate wake of Thatcher, (ignoring Major), still had room for manoeuvre in following the Thatcherite line. PFIs, tuition fees, people still feeling comfortable after Thatcher's privatising and splashing the cash, the debts not yet biting.

We're now in payback - deep in...

...AND Major/Blair/Brown continued it whilst expecting, getting & accepting praise for delivering new public buildings SADDLED WITH 30-50 YEARS OF BASELINE DEBT under PFI👇🏻

NOW Labour at Westminster & Holyrood want a new round of PFIs 😡😱
October 23, 2025 at 7:41 PM
The sort of people who run PFIs talk about "clients", "customers", "stakeholders" and the like - what they don't (and can't) consider is people.
Evil is what you get when you treat people as things.
October 23, 2025 at 7:20 PM
You’re absolutely right to recognise it as a START.

As much as I like Gary Economics I think his messaging can make it sound like a wealth tax will fix all our problems. @thekavernacle.bsky.social did a good video on this.

I don’t trust Labour to use a wealth tax for anything but funding PFIs.
October 21, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Scotland is still paying off PFIs, from the last Labour government.

👉 Why did they fail the first time?
👉 And why are they quietly making a comeback?

Hi Chris, please do keep asking questions! Our research tends to be UK-wide, however, there weren't many PFIs to start with in Scotland! And Wales tended to favour MIM instead. Hence why our research has come out very England focussed!

The message is simple:
❌ No more PFIs.
❌ No new PPPs.

With the Autumn Budget coming up, we need to show politicians the public won’t accept more privatisation.

I doubt the Tories would have dared been this authoritarian. Clearly they overestimated Labour's opposition.
Nor would they have reintroduced PFIs.

Labour are now corporate-far-right.
