Weird feeling when you go to a museum and there's a giant platinum-clad bronze statue of somebody you've actually met. (Andre StrongBearHeart Gaines, Jr., a Nipmuc traditional architect and canoemaker.)

It also makes me think of the Eliot Indian Bible, the first ever bible printed in North America, in 1661, and the first ever Bible printed in a non-European language (it was printed in Wampanoag). James (the) Printer, a Nipmuc man, carried out a lot of the work in typesetting it.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.💚

I acknowledge that the land I’m on is the traditional homeland of the Massachusetts people. I recognize their close neighbors the Wampanoag and the Nipmuc.

Today especially, I want to remind myself that I have native roots in Central America. Possibly the Chorotega but due to the horrors of colonization, I may never know for sure.

I've also resided on the lands of the Agawam, Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, Tequesta, Miccosukee, Seminole, Mascogo, & Taino peoples.

The Ponkapoag Massachusett, Wampanoag, Mashpee Wompanoag, Nipmuc, Narragansett nations -- have always been here, and I hope always will be. Lived better than we estadounidense do, when they could.

Decolonization is not a metaphor.

(1/4)350 years have passed since an unnamed Indigenous woman was forced to make known her community’s battle plans to the MA militia during King Philip’s War. Earlier in the month, she had been captured in Springfield, likely on Nipmuc land, perhaps indicating the tribal nation to which she belonged

It's National Coming Out Day AND Indigenous People's Day. I'm a queer woman living in the unceded territory of the Massachusett and their neighbors the Wampanoag, and Nipmuc Peoples. Now I'm off to donate to organizations supporting local Indigenous peoples.

Sign & Timberhewing was really productive this morning!
We mounted the Nipmuc Trailhead sign & map mounting board for the Asnebumskit Ridge conservation area, and we spudded the bark off of one of the new Black locust logs!
It definitely helped that it wasn't Arctic this morning!
