As part of the “Pact for the Mediterranean”, the EU plans to expand the Erasmus exchange program to include Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia. This should facilitate issuance of visas in particular for students.

Hard-liners in Rabat and Washington are also pushing to label the Polisario a terrorist group — a move diplomats warn could collapse the truce and drag Morocco and Algeria toward confrontation. Algeria, meanwhile, hosts and backs the Polisario Front, which seeks a U.N.-supervised referendum on independence. The conflict dates back to 1975, when Spain withdrew and Morocco annexed most of Western Sahara, triggering war between Moroccan forces and Polisario fighters. A U.N.-brokered ceasefire in 1991 froze the conflict but left the territory’s status unresolved. Morocco now controls about 80% of the land, while Polisario administers desert areas near the Algerian border. Recent years have seen tensions rise as the U.S. formally recognized Moroccan sovereignty in 2020, and several countries opened consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla (major cities in Western Sahara)—moves Algeria condemns as violations of international law.

There were some Turkish citizens in the ~130 they released yesterday but so far I've seen nothing on participants from Malaysia, Brazil, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, or Algeria. Reportedly Thiago Avila and some of the other Brazilians started the hunger strike.
