on my latest nerd shit: i wiped my ubuntu server (was just a test-run anyway) and installed unraid. first thing i popped on it was vaultwarden and migrated my 1password vault to it. also wrapped all that shit up in tailscale so it's only accessible to sync from my meshnet (phone and PC).

In closing, I think a project like this IS useful, but not by a creator/project that locks you out of maintaining/updating the device/microSD Card. LORA/Meshnet is CRITICAL, especially for something like this project. Any person interested in prepping information for a SHTF scenario...

Also Bluetooth is terrible for this, use Wi-Fi direct. It's got better bandwidth and range and can auto negotiate bands better. Dorsey doesn't look like he has even made so much as a Pringles cantenna.

yeah, main issue is that while a meshnet inside a city is doable, it first off needs something to coax people into actually using it, and secondly it tends to lead to isolated cells because long range comms are *hard*, especially without pissing off the authorities

Except if you're running a meshnet (over whatever infrastructure) with many independent nodes that can evade governments' control, with each node a part of a crypto network and/or wallet, you could then have a decentralized digital currency that can't be controlled. That's how I understood it.

Mental note: when using Tailscale, remember to turn off the meshnet in NordVPN. Ten hours later, I finally figured out what was going on with my remote connection.

Actually now I'm kinda wondering if you can use SDR to create a sort of downlow counter-corporate meshnet-type situation using packet radio as a low-key internet analogue on a sprawling space station. That could be worked into a rather fun adventure.
