4) Authors whose books/series I repeatedly read for comfort and satisfaction: Ursula LeGuin, Robin Hobb, Sue Grafton, John D. McDonald, L.M. Mongomery, Michael Ende
As an author and human, I am a mix of all of them because I have lived inside their worlds over and over. ❤️🧙♂️⚔️

LeGuin wrote The Wizard of Earthsea (1st book) in 1968. It holds up, and the first half is a much better magical-boy story than that spectacled one from the TERF. The world building is magnificent, telling you only enough without info dumping. It's often on sale, see if you can find a discount.

Por que vale la pena?

That’s why the wise soul
does without doing,
teaches without talking.
The things of this world
exist, they are;
you can’t refuse them.
To bear and not to own;
to act and not lay claim;
to do the work and let it go:
for just letting it go
is what makes it stay.

I suggest reading "Ishi in Two Worlds" by Theodora Kroeber, mother of Ursula LeGuin. We should be humbled and
open to the plain fact that "we" have done similar things before so we can guard against them happening again. Like Germany, memorials in every town.

It has been a while since I read a poetic fantasy writer in the vein of Patricia Mckillip or Ursula LeGuin. I picked up the first Birdverse book by R. B. Lemberg. The beginning is beautiful. And, heartbreaking.

Buenos días por la mañana. Ursula K. Leguin y yo no llegamos a encontrarnos del todo en La Mano Izquierda de la Oscuridad. Voy a probar con algo más ligero, como Terramar, a ver que tal....

Easy. The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K LeGuin, 1971. Whose publication year is a TIL today!
(Even easier would be the whole Anne of Green Gables series by LM Montgomery 😆)

I think Ursula Leguin would be wryly amused if a fan were to tell her that Omelas should've been razed to the ground.

Cat is named after Ursula LeGuin, so I would expect nothing less, though I do wish she would stop eating all my notes.
We're solid on money and finance topics, but I'm very open to suggestions on good books to assign on trade and global value chains, if you've got them.

I always remember this advice from Leguin. Paraphrasing, but basically always disregard your first idea.
I also love that you’ve written the blurb. I always put them off till way down the line. They’re so hard. I think I’ve only just figured out out the right blurb for my 3 years later 😅

If you’re reading LeGuin nominees, obviously Rakesfall is amazing and I hope you enjoy, but I would also very much recommend Remember You Will Die by Eden Robins, which is written almost entirely in obituaries, and yet strangely hopeful. It really was a banger shortlist this year.
