The Last of the Mohicans was a solid hit in September 1992, opening at #1 and keeping challengers like The Mighty Ducks down, staying in the top ten for eleven weeks (back when they still made movies like this), managing $143 million against a $40 million budget, in the end. #LastOfTheMohicans #HATM

Natty Bumppo is adopted - it's clearer in the book, but he is a white child who is raised among the Delaware Indians and Moravian Christians, creating a sort of colonial gestalt figure. #LastOfTheMohicans #HATM

I've never seen this movie, but I read the book as an undergrad. Fun story: the professor suggested we read this book before the start of the semester and then we never actually talked about it. So I had an unnecessary grudge against it for a while after that.

The Last of the Mohicans should have been a serious Oscar contender, but just...wasn't. It was only nominated for Sound, which it won, but was otherwise shut out by big period pieces Howard's End and (eventual Best Picture) Unforgiven. Probably deserved more love... #LastOfTheMohicans #HATM

Seriously, how have I watched last of the Mohicans 50 bazillion times in my youth and not notice that after the waterfall scene , Alice has a braid and a bead in her hair?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It only occurred to me like...2 days ago and I haven't stopped thinking about it.
