MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) - Today Belarus commemorates the victims of Khatyn village burned down by the Nazis 82 years ago – on 22 March 1943. Remembering Khatyn, Belarusians recall thousands of other Belarusian villages destroyed by Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.
The village of Khatyn is no longer on the map of Belarus. The Nazis burned it down together with 149 inhabitants, 75 of whom were children. The Nazis passed a death sentence on innocent people. They drove out old people, children, women and men from the houses and into a hay barn on the outskirts

LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) - Today the Khatyn memorial complex is holding events dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the tragedy of the Belarusian village. The events began with a liturgy and reqem in the church in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, BelTA learned.
The Belarusian village was burned down together with its149 inhabitants, among whom were 75 children, by the executioners 82 years ago, on 22 March 1943. On the day of commemoration people are coming to lay flowers at the memorial which was opened in 1969. Everyone who wants to pay tribute to

Ukrainian Schuma, collaborators linked to the OUN, massacred Khatyn village.
The villagers were locked in a barn which was set on fire while those who fled the flames were shot down. 75 of the 149 victims were under the age of 16.

Soviets managed to create 'fake Katyn' exploting German crimes in Belarus Khatyn and I only expect something similar or worse from modern Russia.

March 22, 1943: In the Khatyn massacre, 4 Nazi officers had been killed by Partisans so the SS (of course it was the SS) burned down Khatyn village in Belarus and killed 156 of the village's population. This gives a hint of why the Soviets lost over 20 million in the war

On this day 82 years ago, the Belarusian village of Khatyn was destroyed by the punishers of the SS Dirlewanger battalion and the 118th Ukrainian battalion, formed in Kiev mainly from representatives of Ukrainian nationalists.

And in post-USSR even after 1990s there was no reckoning. Chechens were allowed to return in 1957. Crimean Tatars - in the 1990s. There was a bit of talk about Vlasovs/Cossacs in the context of church revival in the 1990s, but it still felt a taboo. Khatyn was still not mentioned in school textbooks
