Brasero, though, being a GNOME app and not KDE, has a completely different file selector that I don't like, that ignores all of my bookmarked locations and also jumps back to the Home folder if I change the "file type" dropdown at all.

i want to like neochat (kde's client) but it's still in beta and can be just a bit jank

That's fair. I spent a few months on Linux and mostly loved it! But you're right there were many pain points, and as a VR enthusiast the VR support was just not there yet. So I had to grudgingly return to windows but I do still miss a lot of it. KDE's one click status buttons were a life changer...

@rebane2001 if you didnt know, the antonymph web experience is borked on wayland (atleast kde's compositor), since the windows start in the center of the screen instead of the top right corner, would be a good thing to add a disclaimer for wayland ppl in regards to that.

I do like KDE’s layout more and it kinda shows lol, I think I just got more used to gnome’s quirks and how it functions since I ran Ubuntu on my laptop for so long tho (thought i had to for the fingerprint scanner)

as for the ram i’m SO glad i got it when i did! (insert protogen ram joke)

GCompris, KDE's collection of educational activities, publishes version 26.0.

gcompris.net/news/2026-02...

You get 197 activities, including 2 new ones: "Drawing wheels", for drawing with a gear within a cogwheel; and "Multiple choice questions", enabled through GCompris-teachers (see next post).

Shit, I can do it with Dolphin, KDE's file manager.
February 3, 2026 at 10:25 PM
Hmm… not sure… a mix of things probably. I think KDE's UI was modeled more on Windows (the bars, window top and bottom buttons, etc.) and Gnome's was modeled after Mac. (I was switching from Windows at that time).

KDE Plasma Login Manager Won’t Support Systemd-Free Linux or BSD Systems
✨ Explore this trending post from Hacker News 📖 📂 **Category**: ✅ **What You’ll Learn**: KDE's new Plasma Login Manager is tightly bound to systemd, making it unusable on systemd-free Linux distributions and BSD systems. KDE’s upcoming Plasma Login Manager will make its first official appearance in Plasma 6.6 (scheduled for release on February 17), explicitly designed as a successor to the long-standing SDDM, which has been used by KDE Plasma for years.

Today I found out some notification sounds from KDE's Ocean sound pack (specifically dialog_info.oga) is panned slightly to the right, which is the side of the screen notifications come from by default.

"This Week in Plasma" brings the news that Plasma 6.6 lands in little over two weeks, choosing mixed skin tones for emojis gets a friendly pop-up, and you can set a global keyboard shortcut to clear the notification history, among many other marvellous things.

I’m not sure who’s responsible for putting laptop firmware updates inside KDE’s Discover app, but bravo. I can’t imagine how much effort it would have taken to have this functional and stable and “Just Work” ™️

Was a little worried about running Linux on a dual gfx laptop but been smooth sailing 👏

SonicDE: Preserving X11 Amidst KDE’s Wayland Transition and Its Security Implications
At AllSafeUs Research Labs, we continually monitor the evolving landscape of critical software infrastructure, particularly within the open-source ecosystem that underpins many enterprise and specialized deployments. A significant development has emerged from the KDE community, signaling a pivotal shift that warrants close attention from security professionals and IT strategists alike. KDE Plasma, a prominent desktop environment for Linux, has announced its intention to move towards Wayland-exclusive support with the upcoming Plasma 6.8 release, effectively retiring its long-standing X11 session support.

I added that preset years ago to go with KDE's Breeze Dark theme (the base color was chosen to match the color in late 2018), but with KDE changes and the new theme, it probably no longer matches KDE anymore. This might need changing in the future, since it's the intended purpose of that preset.

We set up everything and waited 6 weeks for #KDE's announcement. Nothing. We repeatedly tried to contact the representative and his colleagues, but they didn't respond. That's a pity. We had high hopes and had already agreed on a good collaboration.
