despite all the fear mongering about trans people and the attempts to abandon and actively harm us from both political parties in the US, transitioning is still the greatest decision i’ve ever made, only regret i have is not doing it younger, and that it has only made my life infinitely better

People are right to criticise Labour for the lack of ambition but this small step (in line with polls of the NZ public) getting the most outrageous sky-is-falling responses from govt ministers is a win. Willis is out there sweating the small stuff—the ideological dogma is a huge weakness.

there's a massive neglect of the role the sea plays in popular conceptions of statebuilding and empire pre 19th century. as hobsbawm points out sea travel (and river travel) was often faster than land travel outside of flat land / plains / agricultural land up until railways came by

i don't really like to encourage people to try linux because the experience is still pretty user hostile sometimes, but there have been genuine efforts to improve it by introducing immutability (ones you can't break by package manager shenanigans) and KDE is even working on their own unified distro.

Python foundation said no and rejected the grant.
