It's a rite of passage of the hard-core gamer.

The adventure game-files of "Infocom Inc." and "Sierra Games" are online: So are the cheat-sheets. The SCUMM interpreter required to use the game file is available for all popular Operating Systems.

It was originally intended to be entered into IFComp 2025, but well that didn't happen. Now crossing fingers for IFComp 2026. Though feeling rather overwhelmed by the amount of writing still to do! It's a traditional parser text adventure, so will need lots of time for thorough playtesting as well.

Or maybe I have. Back when we started fundraising for IFComp prizes, I came up with this prize amount schema:

We've used the same formula every year. (Quadratic curve.)

It's about a play in which the player can't play! And to play, you have to break the game. The results are catastrophic to everything inside this reality, and you can reach one of multiple endings. There was an IFComp review I loved which said they couldn't keep on playing out of fear of [3/4].

"Let Me Play!" (2025/2026) was featured at IFComp 2025, but will get released next year on Steam! This is a short experimental thingy about authorship. It was supposed to be much more complex that what we ended up with, but the way I see each project it's [1/4]

For anyone who played or judged this year's #ifcomp , there's a post-event survey from @IFTF that allows for feedback on (among other things) the use of generated AI in cover art and entries themselves.

I didn't play a lot of entries because the whole thing left a bad taste, but glad to provide […]

IFComp 2025, around since 1995, is (likely) the longest-running videogame creation contest.

Text adventures contests go back to near the beginning: what about Comp 1983?

I start into the games of the Falsoft contest, and the conditions which led to their creation.

Blah blah anecdata blah blah bias but also: IFComp is over and as far as I can tell (the results page doesn't show the disclaimers, frustratingly) not one game that used an LLM for writing cracked the top half of the standings. Most are clustered towards the bottom.
