Take that #hiviz evangelists.

"there is no evidence that either colour [white or fluorescent yellow] is more or less visible or more likely to be involved in an accident"

So wear what you bloody well like when you are out #cycling.

Take that hiviz evangelists.
The North East ambulance service is buying white ambulances now to save money as painting them hiviz yellow doesn't make em more visible.

White emergency ambulances to be rolled out across North East
NEAS says switching to white ambulances would save about £1,000 per vehicle.

They are transferring responsibility so they can be irresponsible.
If only the helmet and hiviz evangelists drove with the same concern as they do for what they demand others wear
The arrogance of people who tell others what clothes and headgear they should wear doing daily things like cycling to the shop is unreal.

And none of them willing to wear high-vis or helmets in their cars "if it saves one life".

Anything, but safer streets, and enforcement of existing laws.

I’m sorry. I’ve been lucky but nearly every ride to work or back I have one close call that is dependent on my awareness to save myself even if I’m wearing hiviz and lights everywhere. It’s amazing how much safe I am when the bike lanes looks like this

For those going to the Victorian Pride street party today., if at a later date you ask if I was there, I will answer with this question, Did you see the guy in the "HiViz Tradie" outfit?

Loads of them appeared recently, suspect Radon monitoring, guys in hiviz taking readings off them yesterday

It's the drag queen dream. With Daddy in HiViz.

On a drizzle night in the phoenix Park. Pulled by a Garda. What's wrong? I asked. He said that he wanted to show how you should be dressed for cycling. Railway hiviz coat leggings Front &Rear Led lamps helmet. To this cyclists. Black oil skin coat half a reflector on mudguard. The glow of a fag,

No guarantees.
Riding, even in hiviz, could kill you
But sitting on the couch instead WILL kill you.
Education for drivers and having cyclists be a regular part of their traffic pattern is all we can do.

Fair. Think I'm letting my anti-hiviz militancy get the better of me :)
February 6, 2026 at 9:45 AM
Good! I never got more motorist abuse than when I tried wearing hiviz and plastic hat.

Changing culture also takes a lot of time, education, infrastructure and legislation. In the meantime, would you prefer to have children cycling with or without helmets and hiviz?
February 5, 2026 at 6:51 PM
Italy introduced it, didn't work.
New Zealand studied years of crash data, hiviz wearers were hit at similar rates as non.
It's nothing but victim blaming nonsense to absolve drivers of their duty of care and to deflect from the lack of government investment in safe infrastructure
February 5, 2026 at 5:32 PM
A knee jerk reaction from a knee jerk government. This has exactly nothing to do with scramblers which are already illegal on Irish roads.

Or are they trying to imply that Grace Lynch is at fault for not wearing hiviz when killed by a driver?

There must be a HiViz and helmet manufacturer in the Occupied Territories

Seemingly, although I'm struggling to work out the logic that will mandate helmets and hiviz for cyclists following an incident where a teenager on a scrambler bike killed a pedestrian.
I really do not understand it.

I was wearing helmet and hiviz when another parent at son's school slammed open his van door while I passed and knocked me into traffic. Said that the van had been made with a "blind spot".
I was wearing hi vis when a motorist drove into me. Passengers in the car got out to tell me the driver was really upset because she didn't see me. I didn't have much sympathy as I was picking gravel out of my hands.

I was visible. She didn't look.
The hi viz will work great when I'm hit by a motorist looking at their phone.

Mandatory helmets and hiviz... The first sign of total lack of comprehension of the issues.
Seems it's an international problem...
