I’ll eat my hat if there’s real coverage of emissions with an industrial price. The free allocations will continue to be out of control. I don’t see any appetite for policy integrity, because that requires Fed/prov conflict and GoC mettle. Current mood is more like Tantrum Federalism.

I do not hold out a whole lot of hope that the industrial carbon price will have the kind of coverage and stringency as to matter much.
I am just not hearing any indication that the GoC will use this economic tool to incentivize clean tech, diversify the economy or meaningfully reduce emissions.

Given that industrial price is a fight with AB and SK, there is no indication the GoC will actually take on the negotiation and conflict that real policy with teeth requires. In the first instance, they’ll have to tell SK “no” on restarting coal plants. There’s no way that’s happening.
