I thought it was terrific filmmaking, but everyone’s mileage may vary

It's a really impressive feat of filmmaking, the car sequences are really neat and took a lot of craft.

It's a very mid movie, it's plot is meh, and if you know anything about the sport it's borderline gibberish.

Has anyone seen any good reviews (actually sinking their teeth in) for Department Q. It’s easily one of my favorites in the last few years, but I’ve yet to see any reviews grapple with the storytelling, thematics, or filmmaking—whether or not they liked it.
Cold case mystery 'Dept. Q' focuses more on the characters than crime
An Edinburgh police detective and a team of misfits search for a woman who vanished several years earlier. Critic John Powers says the byplay of characters makes Dept. Q worth watching.

I counted 10, but either way, it's disappointing. Decision-makers at industry institutions forget *why* many folx take up filmmaking to begin with, incl. human collaboration & all that goes w/ that (e.g., ideas exchange, questions that challenge & push a vision, "perfect" mistakes, & so much more).
Sundance announced a whopping NINE AI-related panels today.

Hope this ages as well as their NFT events in 2022 did.

"We believe that AI can be used as a tool to assist underground artists that don't have access to big hollywood budgets and tools."

motherfucker what do you think underground artist where doing in the 70s 90s ???
they came up with CREATIVE solution to problems, that's the whole point of filmmaking

“Come bring your stories. Bring your artistic abilities, bring your talent. Bring your cinematic story to the foreground. This is the time for storytelling."

Do i personally think its the best movie?
No i think that is Eddington
But I dont think it is overrated and its cool that a guy like Coogler who clearly loves the filmmaking experience, got a huge budget to play around with

A long slow burn of incredible filmmaking followed by a quick bunch of also very good filmmaking.

Horror by included elements, thriller by tone, action by the amount of action… it’s what if The Hateful Eight (or FDTD more pointedly) was more fun and (much more) about race… and better.

This is largely a sub-tweet regarding Dune: Part 2, an incredible piece of filmmaking that largely got overlooked come Wins because The Academy felt it needed to wait for Messiah. If Messiah sucks or gets ignored bc ‘26 looks to be crowded, then we wasted giving flowers to Part 2 for nothing.

I tried the Neewer NP-F750 4-pack (5,600 mAh each) + 4-bay dock.

Results on two 18" LEDs: 40% ≈ 6h, 70% ≈ 4h.

Charging: 1–2 batt ≈ 2h, all 4 ≈ 4h. Rotating daily kept me powered.

How many NP-Fs do you pack for a shoot?

This documentary includes interviews with multiple filmmakers. Seeing David Lynch reminds me what an incalculable loss his death was to both filmmaking and the American intellectual milieu. What a genius he was.

Thank you for every view, share, and message about the new collection.

Starting w/ the wild F1 Best Picture nomination:

My guess is that the ‘Blockbuster with Solid Technicals’ slot was thrown into chaos when Wicked 2 was a dud and Avatar 3 was the least innovative in the series.

The visceral filmmaking in the racing scenes is the only exceptional part of F1.

me, too.
an unfortunate screenplay and unfortunate filmmaking

I wasn’t blown away by Sinners, though I’m all for all these nominations. This the kind of movie Hollywood should reward: original, high concept, theatrical releases, that are also crowd-pleasers. That’s what we all want more of from mainstream filmmaking

Brent and Craig Renaud are masters of cinéma vérité filmmaking through an extremely empathetic and humanist lens. This film is a masterwork, but something that people may not be talking about is how the tragedy central to this film inherently forces a change in the form of their filmmaking.
