I’ve got a good pc that I can play pretty much anything on and if the price of the GabeCube is right I’ll probably grab it too just to hook it up to my bedroom tv and game in bed for max comfort. PC desk for flight sims, spreadsheet games, and FPSs, bedroom tv for chill stuff, ideal setup

Secrets in those oldschool FPSs tend to be more helpful goodies, and not really obligatory to progress. the self contained nature also greatly helps with reducing fatigue in my opinion.

Of course. In Metroidvanias for example you can get lost in a much more fundamentally unfun way than in level by level FPS games. I have given up on Metroidvanias by being so lost and ill equiped to where I got to that it was easier to restart the game. in FPSs it never got to that for me.

It may also be because I built up my FPS skills recently, when I played 13 FPSs over the course of a couple of months.

The more advanced games get the more mixed the genres became: Arcade beat-ep-ups got permanent stat boosts. FPSs got skill trees. "Action" games got "adventure" game dialogue choices with consequences. Farming sims got combat. Strategy got dating sim. Sports games at 1 point had parent lineage mode.

Fallout 3, which I'm playing like one. I don't get it, I dislike almost all FPSs but I almost never use VATS in later Fallouts.
Name a First Person Shooter.

I do think an issue with FPSs is there's just such a huge lack of like, actual subgenres

these days we have what would've been like just one game mode in a shooter but sold as a whole game

I was thinking about trying to use Xenia + mouse hook. I can't stand playing FPSs on gamepads anymore.

I remember how PS3 era graphics were know as "piss-filter" on acount of the greys and yellows seemingly present on every game (mostly FPSs)
Can we call this generations graphics "UE5 RTX slop"?

The agents on the street, in the backs of their minds, are thinking "Why weren't there wine moms with whistles in all those FPSs?"

Remember Phil Fish's "Japanese games suck" comment? Remember how "JRPG" became a dirty word very quickly? Remember how the rise of jingoistic FPSs fueled the nationalist fervor within the American gaming community?

Does this series have gyroscopic aiming? Maybe a weird question, but surprisingly few FPSs on switch do.

I think I more or less figured out which platforms I want to use for which games.

PS5: RPGs, action-adventures
Switch: farming sims, Nintendo-ish games, some visual novels with gameplay elements
Steam: fighting games, FPSs, shmups, city builders, point-and-click adventures, text-heavy visual novels

This looks so good! I seldom play FPSs but I might have to make an exception.
'MOUSE: P.I. For Hire' releases March 19, 2026 🎮🐭

• Game is inspired by 1930s cartoons
• Protagonist is voiced by Troy Baker

This is to FPSs what Cuphead was to platformers.
October 24, 2025 at 9:20 PM
Honestly, head-bob is something I immediately turn off in FPSs too
October 24, 2025 at 5:44 PM
is there a big market for point and click games that ape the aesthetics of FPSs
October 24, 2025 at 3:35 PM
(psst don't worry she's not that good at FPSs either)
October 24, 2025 at 10:19 AM
And is also like self defeating like oh yeah if games are more expensive its not like everyone gets more money, like oh now we just have less FPSs because the money is less evenly distributed
October 24, 2025 at 7:32 AM
FPSs need to incorporate blown out crotches more. Not having it destroys the immersion

Got another new article up! This one's about Powerslave, a Saturn/PS1 first-person adventure that was remastered by the fantastic people at Nightdive. Even if you don't love FPSs, it's a game worth considering!

[RTs appreciated!]
