Alice Coltrane’s Journey in Satchidananda and Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew during Spravato are great for getting the feeling of being in the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey without the cosmic terror.

I’d include Coltrane’s A Love supreme as well but not sure I’d be able/want to rank them. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I wrote about Alice Coltrane’s amazing ‘Journey to Satchidananda’ album. Have a read.
Alice Coltrane released her fourth studio album ‘Journey In Satchidananda’ 55 years ago in February 1971 | Listen to the album + read our tribute by @paisleysparks44.bsky.social here: album.ink/AColtraneJIS

This is a tremendous record. Released 3 months after John Coltrane's death, it features Coltrane's "Naima" as the opening track. It was recorded live at the Village Gate, New York City, on June 28, 1967.

If you start MELANIA at the exact same time as Alice Coltrane’s meditative 1971 modal jazz classic “Journey in Satchidananda” they line up perfectly

Haven't seen Paul Dunmall since January last year. As a tribute to Tony Bianco they'll be performing Coltrane's Ascension live (so I've been told). Mystery guest on this session...I wonder who it might be...

They were both released in '69 but the Thornton LP was recorded in '67, right after Coltrane's death. Joe told me that he was invited to play at Coltrane's graveside on the day of his funeral, which is wild as hell and I think about it every day.

The two YT clips you posted are ridiculous. Clearly Coltrane's show.

John Coltrane’s final words were “when you put my albums up on Apple Music, make sure to animate the album covers with AI.”

A LOVE SUPREME

Good Sunday to listen to John Coltrane’s four-part suite, “A Love Supreme.” A masterpiece in jazz history. Deep spirituality.

#NP Hank Mobley - Soul Station (Blue Note, 1960). I actually think this is a slightly better album than John Coltrane's album from the same year. Mobley simply has better tunes overall, IMHO.

I always loved how the author Geoff Dyer described a live recording of Coltrane's My Favourite Things as reaching "into the darkness of space before re-entering, everything burning up around him. The solo: a whole career on alto compressed into just 11 minutes."

Does it have a car with a very problematic name and paint job jumping a creek? Does Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane's car wind up in said creek? No? Then it does not come anywhere close to what I want from a car chase.
What's the single overall best car chase in cinema history? One that almost has everything you would want from a car chase?

It's not a bold or original answer, but I think I have to go with the French Connection

One of the best concerts of the 2020s, hands down. She is carrying Alice Coltrane’s torch (and played two Coltrane tracks). The trio is amazing.
