I mention this because this will be a massive source of liabilities in future and it only took 10 years for the CPPIB to be 50% funded by asset returns

is there a reason we dont just have a fund like CPPIB to fund things like OAS/GIS?

CPP payouts depend on how much you contribute. All the money is collected and sent to CPPIB which invests it
OAS is just kind of a basic income for seniors (depending how long youve lived in canada) and comes from general revenue

What made the CPPIB deals even more troubling is that local producers were forced to compete against their own money to buy farmland. Hopefully producers and rural communities wake up to the fact that this government doesn't give a damn about them.

In 2013 SP friends were selling thousands of acres of farmland to the CPPIB. Now @saskndp.bsky.social are reporting the SP Gov't is allowing foreign farmland purchases. Wall government looked the other way in 2013 until the @pcpartysk.bsky.social called them out. Are they looking away once again?

But what you describe is the model. The investment management is completely separate from politics here. And the CPPIB has consistently delivered good returns, and many investments are not correlated with stock markets, deliberately.
