In some parts of Shropshire, there was a belief that one should never look behind them once a journey had started. This was because the Devil was always close to the traveller, waiting to claim their soul.

On Palm Sunday, Shropshire Folk would travel to local cemeteries and cover loved one's graves in locally found wild flowers. This was a sign of respect and remembrance. The day came to be known locally as 'Flowering Sunday'.
