This is a good sign if this is a purge with a purpose.
Tim Allan, Keir Starmer’s director of communications, has just quit his Downing Street role:

“I have decided to stand down to allow a new No 10 team to be built. I wish the PM and his team every success."

People have been obsessed with Morgan McSweeney

McSweeney had been a shadowy and mysterious figure at No.10. Listen to @iandunt.bsky.social and @dorianlynskey.bsky.social's episode on Blue Labour - a movement that McSweeney has been linked to.

Honestly, I'm not a fan if Starmer but if I was him I'd walk out & leave this awful mess to someone else. Thinking of Cameron leaving No,10 whistling a merry tune after the EURef.

While celebrating McSweeney’s resignation, I don’t think Starmer should necessarily go next. He has a moment to pivot to reform and transparency. He can still change the political culture if he wants to. People can surprise you. Think of Zelenskyy. Live in hope

If Starmer responds to McSweeney‘s departure in a defensive way, this will be a missed opportunity that will lead to his own exit. This has to be his - and that amorphous entity known as the ‘soft left’ - to finally assert a distinctive take on what it means to be Labour.

We’re often told the PM is a ‘decent’ man. But in appointing Peter Mandelson he chose political convenience over doing right by trafficked women and girls, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik
