The Trump-China trade relationship reminds me of my middle school love life: On one week, off the week, high drama, passing notes, heartache, renewal, gossip, and we did it all again the next week.

The reality, of course, is that despite the drama, no-one was making long-term commitments.

There's a decent chance that the Supremes will strike down Trump’s extra special brand new 100% China tariff, as unconstitutional. And so it's doubly notable how much markets panicked, given the (roughly) 50% chance it won’t happen. The market drop understates the damage Trump's trying to inflict.

That is different from what the admin said. They claimed it was coming out of DOD R&D funds. Tariff money cannot be touched by the Trump Regime without congressional approval.

To date, Starmer has been hugely effective at reconciling closer links with China, 'reset' with the EU and a good relationship with Trump. That balancing act is only going to get harder. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
