History postdoc in Turin, works on race, policy, and education in the German Enlightenment.

Has strong feelings about the periodization of the 18thC. Enjoys hiking, hummus, horror films, and heavy metal. Jewish.
This is a really disturbing but 100% worthwhile read.

"Freebirthing" is yet another example of distinctly modern, historically-unprecedented practices being repackaged as traditional or natural. The vast majority of humans have always taken the best medical advice they could...

This feels both surreal and entirely predictable. When Trump's in a good mood, he'll fall behind pretty much anyone with a dash of charisma. There are moments in this interview when it's almost sweet

...until you remember that's also why he keeps swinging from Putin to Zelenskyy.
Trump frickin' loves this guy lmao

Gonna be honest, "nobody interviewed their families on TV" doesn't sound like a great defence for crimes against humanity charges
Cotton on Trump's boat strikes: "Use common sense. If any of these had been boats full of fisherman or refugees, CNN would've already been on the ground & interviewed all their families & told their stories. We can be confident all of these strikes have been against cartel-based drug traffickers."

A UX designer friend in Germany is having difficulties at work. Her company is trying to push her out on dubious grounds. Her company is not unionized.

Does anyone have any advice on where she can go to seek help and legal support? Are there any tech unions that might be willing to help?

Great example of taking back control from those dastardly Eurocrats:

French meat farmers get to tell British consumers that we're not smart enough to spot a big ol' VEGAN scrawled across the packaging. And the default is that we must accept it.

Every single thing I read in UK news is about some new form of cruelty and suffering to be meted out against asylum seekers/immigrants/trans people but everytime I'm actually in the UK I'm reminded of what a warm, welcoming, culturally vibrant place it actually is.
