Absolutely no good can come from letting universities be run by people who are not a part of the scholarly community and do not share its goals and values.
This is the most alarming story I’ve read today. Giving up the fight before it’s started

I read this piece on antisemitism in Berlin universities and it left me asking questions. Did Maltz talk to the TU AStA people? could she crosscheck what they did say? She also cites RIAS without thematizing the grave methodological concerns about their studies.

German academia: great place to work? You should think twice before giving it a try: Permanent positions are very rare, most scholars have to drop out after some precarious years. @dianakwon.bsky.social has written a great piece about this for @nature.com and also talked to yours truly. #IchBinHanna
How to stop the revolving door of German academia
Germany is one of the most popular destinations for students and scholars worldwide, but those pursuing academic careers face significant hurdles to success.

Our podcast on Eastern Europe and decolonization is out!
Why has Eastern Europe been absent from studies of decolonial history?

In our latest podcast, Oksana Dudko (@oksanadudko.bsky.social) and Anna Hájková (@ankahajkova.bsky.social) discuss Ukrainian history in an age of invasion.

To avoid waiting uselessly in the (hot?) airport jetty for 5-10 minutes, just ask the ground crew once you get to the gate to start boarding ONLY AFTER they got the OK from the plane crew.

Some ground crews just don't care.

Most relevant for those boarding first who often pay for better service.

People Without History are Dust explores same-sex desire in the Holocaust, telling the gripping stories of queer Jews that have been long silenced by the homophobia of survivors.

In Vienna, I also attended a presentation on Martha Geiringer, a lesbian Jewish zoologist who escaped to Belgium, fell in love with a woman physician, and was murdered in Auschwitz. Mark Verschooris researched the story and wrote a book:
