Obviously, it's literally a felony, but I will also point out that the obsessive consumption of what we'll broadly call destructive materials is a hallmark of the darkest corners of the internet participated in by some of the lowest, most unwell dregs of society in those corners.

It's an opinion that sits uncomfortably, but reality is super fucking nuanced, and having seen a small glimpse of what a lack of safeguards can cause on Discord, I gotta say I think that this take might be the most rational and solid one I've seen.

My last opinion regarding Discord is you're going to have to decide if you're comfortable with a platform doing nothing about a truly nightmarish volume of the worst child extortion and abuse imaginable or an increasingly effective, secure form of verification.

This is not Discord “walking things back.” This is them further explaining the situation in more detail, and elaborating on how the new system will work. I understand the impulse to attribute this to outrage and Nitro cancellations, but this is just a better explanation, not a change.
Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)
