I think it's because universities are largely donor-driven and in that context promoting cognition, learning, understanding, and mental health aren't incentivized for institutions or individual administrators hoping to climb the ladder while flashy tech bullshit is incentivized.
Study after study shows that using LLMs is bad for cognition, bad for learning, bad for understanding, bad for mental health. So why are our schools and universities still relentlessly pushing them?

Just finished @jeffschuhrke.bsky.social's incredible new book on the US Labor movement's long, sordid history of support for Israeli colonialism.

Just like his previous book, Blue Collar Empire, it's an absolute must read for those fighting for international working class solidarity!

Basically everyone who voted for this resolution spent the last two years actively helping Israel commit genocide.

Frankly, it's an honor as a socialist to have these monstrous ghouls condemn us, it proves again how right we are.
The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

86 Dems joined Republicans in supporting the measure, incl. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Educators and artists have noted that AI is useless or damaging in many important contexts but the useless/damaging character of AI will only become a fully settled matter of accepted fact after full AI saturation of those contexts or the AI bubble bursts.

Opinion: Student researchers need to stand up for themselves politically - Daily Bruin

Just saw this today. This is a transparent attempt to KILL DUE PROCESS by lying about the job of immigration judge and stacking the deck through hiring only bloodthirsty lawyers who want to deport people.

This comes after they pushed out over 100 judges deemed too likely to grant relief.
DOJ is now recruiting for immigration judges by calling them “deportation judges.”

That’s seems really bad.

While Mullin is advocating for eugenics and the abandonment of the disabled here, as his fascist backers want him to, he inadvertently reveals the problem with his argument's stupid metaphor.

No one gets to decide to place a fire hydrant near their house, just as no one decides when they get sick.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."
