Here's the single thing about American life that is aspirational to me:

The Fourth of July BBQ. It's only that. You people have to let me be in one of those.

Eat the burger. Bring side dish that aggravates the other wives because mine is better. No-sell a neighbour's weird boast about his new job

Surely a richer society CAN just have a higher debt burden, but to do that when you are also one medical emergency away from being Destroyed seems unwise.

I know the Car Loan is a separate, even more predatory kind of thing but I am also kinda baiting people into explaining that to me in their own words because I think you need to understand how wild it is.

The things Americans casually admit they put on a credit card (or explicitly identifying it as one of their SEVERAL credit cards) are wild, and it makes things like "regular family owns two cars, will buy child another car for their 16th" seem a lot less aspirational.

To us "I can't believe that 40k people in square states got to decide our fates, again" is not something to which "uhm actually it happened because of GENOCIDE BIDEN!!!" is a coherent response. Stop doing that, at the very least to Ukrainians.

My only-sorta-chauvinistic theory of why the internet sucks as much as it does is because it's governed under U.S. regulatory models and largely relies on the English language for discourse, giving anglosphere pathologies an express ticket through the world's brains

"You mean capitalism in a way that corresponds more clearly to the Buddhist description of existence as such" is a legitimate take

Who would have predicted that "right wing billionaire will pay you for takes that do numbers on his site's algorithm" could have lead to this?
