I have no idea about the film itself but this soundtrack looks bananas amazing: The Bird and the Bee, St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy covering The Band, Weyes Blood, and more. Sharon Van Etten’s beautiful cover of The Pretenders’ “2000 Miles” is out now and it absolutely rules. High hopes for this one!

Wrote about Todd Snider, East Nashville and how the more things change, the more they change.

Something good comes along, then it’s gone: Farewell, Todd Snider.
When I moved to East Nashville in 2012, legend had it that if you wanted to find Todd Snider, all you had to do was go to Drifter’s BBQ in Five Points, and he’d be there at the bar. Nashville always h...

So sad about Todd Snider’s passing. Fell in love with his songwriting voice via “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues” back in ‘94 and fell deeper down the well seeing him a half dozen times when I lived in Nashville. Spinning “The Ghost of Johnny Cash” a few extra times in his honor today.

It’s hard to adequately contextualize this absolute otherworldly gem that transcends beyond both the Nirvana catalog and the MTV Unplugged canon. What a beautiful, vulnerable, one-of-one performance that hits as fresh and riveting today as it first did to my 13-year-old eyes and ears.

Happy 31st anniversary to Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York album and my thanks to the great @mwardlaw.bsky.social for having me on the @ultclassicrock.bsky.social podcast to discuss it! I’ll never tire of listening to (or talking about) this genuine masterpiece!

Another monster vinyl delivery over the weekend. I’m super stoked to finally see Neil’s Unplugged pressed up here in the states and getting Mirror Ball and Sleeps with Angels in the mix is just icing on the cake. Really jazzed to dig into this whole set!

After an unsolicited and probably-too-long hug with the mailman, looks like the weekend’s settled! ‘Electric Nebraska’ vinyl to finish out the workday and then the solo live DVD as tonight’s main feature. What a seriously cool project to finally see the light of day!

As someone who can still karaoke Carman’s “Witch’s Invitation,” I’ll always be down for a podcast on ‘80s Satanic Panic - even more so when the fantastic Sarah Marshall of @yourewrongabout.bsky.social is at the helm! First ep dropped this week and it’s… bewitching!

It’s fun to remember that at least 5 amazing artists cross-pollinated two of the greatest TV shows of all time (MTV Unplugged and The Adventures of Pete and Pete):
- Syd Straw (‘89 pilot)
- LL Cool J (‘91 YO! Unplugged)
- Michael Stipe (‘91/‘01)
- Toby Huss (‘94 Spoken Word II)
- Alicia Keys (‘05)

Since I’m admittedly most familiar with Ace’s musical genius through his admirers, I’m spinning this early Foo Fighters cover of his solo hit “Ozone” in his honor today (b-side on the Japanese import single of “I’ll Stick Around”). Oh, and I also installed some smoke bombs in my keyboard as tribute.
