NEW EPISODE! In honor of The Beatles Anthology 30th anniversary - here’s a collection of MTV Unplugged Beatles Covers from artists like Annie Lennox, Blackstreet, Hall & Oates, Phil Collins, and more! Plus Paul’s Beatles tunes from his ‘91 Unplugged!

Promo or not, this is one of the raddest ‘90s holiday comps in my collection: Juliana Hatfield, Bad Religion, Daniel Johnston, Victoria Williams, Evan Dando, Tori Amos, and (because it was the ‘90s) Collective Soul and Hootie. The Daniel Johnston artwork on the front is a really cool touch as well.

Who needs coffee when you can wake up with the White Stripes singing (and reading) about Christmas! ❤️🤍🖤

Having Alicia Silverstone and Melissa Joan Hart in the same movie elicited enough of a little ‘90s buzz but naming a character after original Sixpence guitarist Tess Wiley couldn’t have been a coincidence, right? Maybe it was just for me and @totalvibration.bsky.social but I’ll take it!

Two of the best to ever do it! Ella & Louis elevate holiday music like few else ever have. Plus, Louis’ reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” is my absolute favorite of them all (just ever so slightly edging out Dylan’s version).

My friends at the @theringer.com.web.brid.gy asked me to write some words about Counting Crows in honor of the new documentary they just produced, and I gave them way more words (I'm sure) than they expected.

The Counting Crows Story, Told Through Their Deep Cuts
In honor of Ringer Films’ new documentary, ‘Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?,’ we’re looking back on Adam Duritz’s most underrated jams beyond “Mr. Jones”

Kicking the day off with Rex, Herb, The California Raisins, some self-ringing bells, and doo-wop singing camels. Forever a classic!

Noel, whatever, nevermind. While there’s far too few ‘90s alt-rock holiday comps on the whole, this one totally makes up for the lack: Dancehall Crashers, Juliana Hatfield, Mike Watt, Sponge, Bush, Lucious Jackson, Face to Face, Presidents, and Henry Rollins reading “Twas the Night Before Christmas”

As far as Christmas franchises go, the Home Alones and Santa Clauses get all the shine but don’t sleep on Johnny Cash and “some of the biggest stars of the ‘70s” (Steve Martin! Andy Kaufman! Anne Murray!) These predate my very existence but old holiday variety shows are such specific time capsules!

“Our Mother of Victory, pray for us” Second-best TV Christmas episode of all time? Who’s to say? (Me, I’m to say - I mean, not universally, but at least in this house, y’know?)
December 14, 2025 at 5:17 PM
When the greatest single-season TV show of all time not only has an amazing Christmas episode but also has the phenomenal Juliana Hatfield as a guest star (debuting her own gorgeous holiday tune no less). One of my favorite never-miss yearly traditions. It’s a wonderful (my so-called) life, indeed!

I mean, following up SNZ with the Reverend is just what you do this time of year, y’know? The retro guitar tone on this album is so insanely spot-on!

Pardon me while I slip into some Gap khakis and take it back to 1998 for a brief merry minute.

This is a cool next chapter in the life of this wildly storied guitar. I can appreciate when these important pop cultural artifacts get turned into touring exhibits instead of just getting hidden away as a billionaire’s party showpiece. Hope to see it myself someday!

Letters to Cleo’s ‘OK Christmas’ EP is a wonderfully buzzy way to kick off the day. It’s got holiday covers of The Kinks, Elvis Presley, and Boston’s own The Dogmatics, while @kayhanley.bsky.social somehow sounds even more phenomenal than usual. Highly recommended for a cranked-to-11 Christmas!
