i love (no, i don’t) that when you block alcohol companies as their ads come up on meta, instead of the algo taking the hint and not showing you any alcohol ads, they instead double down on more and more niche alcohol companies. very good, healthy stuff there.

“can you handle what the rock is cooking in the kitchen?” is a thing i asked this evening that my perimenopausal brain thought was correct

realized that i graduated college FIFTEEN years ago this weekend, which is just bananas. i changed majors several times so i was a semester ~late. after my ceremony and a little party at a dive bar, i wrote the final draft of my thesis in one sitting, emailed it to my advisor, and never looked back.

did you know that you can just purchase one of those three-flavor popcorn tins for yourself rather than hope one is gifted to your family by a coworker or half-distant relative? we bought one today and i’m fucking delighted.

this!!! and apply this method to every social media platform you use. so much is Bad, you don’t have to continually be subjected to it!!!
I cannot stress enough that is some rando responds to something you reposted trying to draw you into a “but have you considered” discussion of it, they are not acting in good faith, and you just block. Please, embrace the blue sky way. block. block. block.

three years ago right now i was the most hungover i’ve ever been, but i managed to drive to a tiny town in the finger lakes and watched patterson hood play a perfect solo acoustic gig and then we hung til stupid o’clock in the morning listening to music because there was nothing else to do in town.

why are y’all still giving $10/month or whatever they charge now to a streaming service that’s shamelessly in this administration’s back pocket and actively playing recruitment ads for ICE in addition to being horribly unfair to the very artists that allow it to exist? i will never, ever understand.

i almost forgot to post, today i have 888 days of sobriety. i like the angel number days, very much.

y’know when you’re recommended music by a sweet person at a concert but you don’t connect on social media so nearly a year later when a song Hits especially well, all you can do is send it up to the universe and hope they’re having a nice day?

i did not reply “kids today not having to physically get to school in hazardous weather even though you had to when you were a kid is good actually” on a local facebook post even though i really really wanted to, please clap

a very well-put way of expressing the rare good thing about being able to stream any music at any time.
The Great Flattening of Access (in a good way) is absolutely the best result of the streaming world from where I sit. The algorithms can force you into corners but experimentation will suddenly open up ranges.
My 13 year old daughter embraces it all. Fleetwood Mac and Slowdive are great bands and she adores Kate Bush. For her, there is no classic rock, just great music.

one of my greatest accomplishments (sincerely) has been finally, after almost 40 years, getting my side of the family to stop doing cliche thanksgiving things. we went out to dinner last year the night before, and we did it again last night. it was very pleasant. and i am very, very glad for that.

being regarded as a good photographer by my favorite musician is something i may never get my mind around.
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

my annual reminder: if you’re #sober and still want to socialize this holiday season, either drive yourself or have no shame in calling an uber. bailing early is good and necessary to protect your peace. the ones who truly matter won’t judge you for it. there’s no shame in doing what you need to do.

y’know when a dream comes back hours after you woke up? anyway, last night i was eating at a burger king with some grade school classmates, and peter buck showed up with a ska band and started playing and no one was phased by this.

i was literally just reflecting on exactly this as zip city was playing. obviously, drive-by truckers are masterful storytellers, but that track… it’s a step above. her daddy’s mad as hell in the first line. it’s all you need to know. you’re in. cooley’s driving, and you’re along for the ride.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 33788:
Don't front-load your work with unnecessary backstory and intricate worldbuilding. Give your readers only as much as they need to engage with the plot and characters, and let them discover the rest as and when they need it...

i was going to post wondering how many cumulative hours i’ve spent this year waiting in my car or on the sidewalk for shows i’ve been too early for, but then i glanced around at the… five half-empty water bottles in my car from said show waits and now this is a post about that.
