The ideal solution will always be governments doing drug R&D through the path to market, but right now I don't see many doing that, and one of the biggest nations for drug research is currently isolationist and killing off funding.

I hate to defend Moderna or any other pharma co., but Moderna is not in a profitable state as-is. They need the drug candidates that wind up working out to be highly profitable to make up for the losses they are currently experiencing on R&D right now.

I agree wholeheartedly, but it is worth noting that Moderna did see a path to profitability when they had theoretical paths to market in the US. They did not abandon these trials/drugs in a vacuum, and directly did so after the FDA torepedoed a phase 3 mRNA flu vaccine for political reasons.

Hey Chuck, I know the Baileys. They are solidly on board with abolishing ICE at this point. Eileen is driving her friend Luisa's mom to chemo and calls me up to say she's just aghast at how scared she is.

At the end of the day, people might be mad/upset about "job loss" or whatever, but I will continue to argue that ICE agents specifically will be lucky as all fucking hell if all they get out of this with is job loss. The punishment in that case would be so minimal compared to the crimes.

Put another way: ICE and DHS as a whole are about as old as I am, and yet have NEVER proven their utility is worth the rights they trample on. The issues that these wings of gov't have caused did not exist as badly before their inception, so just cut them off clean.

Not that Epstein as a whole is unique, but the scale at which he operated is/was horrific and hopefully not being replicated widely.

I think what people don't understand about Epstein is whilst he committed unspeakably horrible acts that we may never fully know the extent of, part of his role in everything was also being a "fixer" who helped cover his own and similar acts up. The latter is not unique to him, and is also evil.

Also ik my industry is weird given my stances and values but also it... works for now and i need to eat. there's many reasons where i'm at works and doesn't make me feel shitty but i cannot go into them without talking deeply about where i work so i will not be doing so.

On another note: I also deeply respect Alec for the end section of the video, it's so deeply important for people with platforms to be actively discussing how horrible our times are and what we can do to... survive and hopefully better things in the future.

I think that having some understanding of basic business concepts under the current system extends beyond just understanding businesses, and helps people make more informed choices/take more informed stances on certain economic issues, but the public messaging for it doesn't really exist.

To be clear: I'm a proponent of all public transit, specifically trains, which is why this pisses me off. Being hostile to the public/your customer base unnecessarily is just increasing barriers to adoption + legit just burning any goodwill that could be built.
