the proximate reason i post here — beyond the fact that i like a lot of you and enjoy reading your thoughts and jokes and observations — is that this is a non-algorithmic platform where people share lots of stuff and people read what is shared. that's still valuable even if it doesn't "influence!"

Lotta chasing endless growth. I heard at one point pre takeover Twitter (pretty sure; couldve been somewhere else similar) required like 10x the impact to prioritize a cost saving project over a revenue expanding one.

This is per inhabitants which isn't the relevant statistic for making driving more safe. It's per mile driven where we're much closer to our peer nations.

I don't exactly have a problem with people wishing harm on people that harm them -- I think that's probably human nature to some degree. I do have a problem with enacting those wishes (through policy or otherwise).

If you want to get really spicy on the "are you really a proponent of abolition" tho ask around about what people think we should do about the fascists.

Because our culture is so deeply entrenched in a punishment model of justice it is often hard for people to imagine any other form. I really like how you're drawing parallels to car/highway-centric culture here -- this is probably a good line of approach for a lot of people.

It's Dr. Who as a cartoon with adult swim aesthetics, except the doctor is a nihilist who hates everyone and everything and his companion exists mostly to be a punching bag.

I did find it occasionally funny, when my tolerance for nihilistic cynicism was higher. The fanbase is very bad.
