The Oilers will then extend him for 7 years and he’ll score less than 10 OT winners for the entirety of that contract.

It’s funny because my wife is an OT and yet that doesn’t occur to me.

Yeah they’re kind of in cruise control

I mean, even if you just watched the films, I think that message gets through well enough with Saruman and Isengard.

That’s an interesting thought because I think it’s less true of other sports. In many ways, for hockey, the offense is looking for mistakes from the defence & if the defence executes perfectly, I’m not sure the offense has the advantage.

Or IKF not leading off 3rd by another foot or running through the force out.

Or the dead ball that changed the outcome of the game in game 6, which is nothing but pure dumb luck.

Ain’t just one thing.

Still a cruel sport. Maybe the cruelest honestly.

That’s the brutal thing. You can isolate these individual moments. Individual decisions to dwell on. God that would suck as a pro player. Hoffman will live with that one pitch for the rest of his life despite having an objectively great playoffs. He even got Ohtani out afterwards to keep it tied!

Football is turn-based but there’s more chaos. Every player on the field runs their route or plays their role. One poor execution leads to a sack, yes, but coverage prevented the quick throw.

Baseball could be decided by two players. Pitcher & batter. Everyone else could be just watching.
