Not to be all “back in my day”, but every time I watch an old movie and they say “mind if I smoke?” I instantly flash back to a PSA on buses in the 90s. And I feel like we need this kind of blunt messaging on public health stuff.

It WORKED. It’s still in my head 30 years later.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

On the situation in #Venezuela - lots of booms, lots of videos, not much verified info. Remember, in any military operation, first reports are always wrong. Will see in an hour or so where we are, and whether there are any statements/releases from the Pentagon (or anyone else).

If someone could get Lisa Nandy or Liz Kendall to explain, on the record, why they’re not treating this as a major issue, that’d be much appreciated
This does seem just a little bit bad! Idk the sort of thing you’d think politicians might distance themselves from or something!

So we just accept this then? This is a legitimate use of technology going forward? This vile individual's account is just prompt after prompt asking Al to alter real-life images of women. The law needs to catch up with technology now - because we can't trust these tech companies to police themselves

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

Discovering just before the Christmas holidays that your thesis application may never have been confirmed due to a mistake on my part and that I may have wasted the last nearly six months is. . .yeah.

Welp. Probably won't get my urgent emails answered till Jan so, uh. Merry Christmas.

MPs have voted to PASS our bill to establish a UK-EU customs union.

The Prime Minister must now listen to his own MPs, drop his self-imposed red lines and finally go for proper growth through an ambitious trade deal with the EU.

then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

That American politics went off the rails after Barack Obama and British ethnonationalism has reared its head after Rishi Sunak is the real tell about how committed some people are to integration and post racial politics.
A country where Sadiq Khan can lead London, Humza Yousaf can lead Scotland, and Rishi Sunak can lead Britain is a country where the racists had *lost*. So much of this vicious bile has come directly after that and almost no one seems to draw the connection

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
