In much of the country, there is no way to identify overdose spikes in real time, or even tell what contaminants in the drug supply might be killing people. Chicago is doing things differently. Part of my investigation series on overdose in America.

The city has adopted a ‘multifactorial approach to a multifactorial problem’ and has seen a 37% reduction in deaths since the national peak of the crisis

I am a bisexual epidemiology student at Northwestern, so I'm making a little thread today...

(International Day of LGBTQIA+ People In STEM?! long name)

...about the epidemiology of bisexuality.

I fear it's not going to be particularly inspiring.
Happy International Day of LGBTQIA+ People In STEM!

How are you celebrating it?

Anyone else remember when Larry Summer said women have a lower threshold for mathematical intelligence than men?

Years before he was selected to join the Obama administration.

While he was president at Harvard.

The blanket statements men make about women predict how they treat individuals.

And to be clear, the six reported injuries were nosebleeds, which is what happens when you have barotrauma.

I’ve been asking since June, if a passenger is handcuffed and the handcuffs are attached to a chain around their waists, can they even reach up to grab their masks? Seems like no.
😲 CONFIRMED: “an Avelo ICE flight declared an emergency when the cabin lost pressure, according to air traffic control transmissions. The plane made a rapid descent and landed safely. Of 88 people on board, six were injured…”

“budget cuts have stopped or delayed millions of $s in Alzheimer’s research…
’Research is not like bldg a bldg or painting a wall where u can start &then stop for a few yrs &then go back &resume what u were doing. It's much more like feeding a baby… if u stop…for a few weeks, it's irrecoverable’.”🧪🛟
“what happens when treatment is started even before Alzheimer's symptoms are evident: ‘If u look at the ppl who are treated in these trials, …the earlier stage u go, the better off they do. Some of them actually have been stable. And so, what this suggests is that timing is critically important’.”🧪
🧪A clinical trial for Alzheimer's has shown that removal of amyloid plaques in early stage of the disease slows cognitive decline; in particular, a 30% improvement. However, it doesn't stop dementia, it slows it down.

This comes at a time when budget cuts have affected research on this disease.

But, according to experts, the audits he was referring to were routine and unrelated to immigration.

I write often about how private equity is destroying US healthcare. Lina Khan is a rare person who has used her position in power to fight back against private equity’s hold on the US economy. Very excited to see what she does in New York.
If you don’t know Lina Khan, now is a great time to know about her. She’s now on Zohran Mamdani’s transition team. She’s also the former FTC Chair, only 36, & committed to leveling the playing field for everyday Americans. She is an absolute star. This is what hope feels like.

No wonder his campaign videos slap.
