I like Doctor Who, running, Freak Zone music, and the Scottish Green Party, and I love my cat Marvin and my wife Helen.

When we watch “Gone Fishing with Mortimer and Whitehouse” and the credit “Fishing Consultant - John Bailey” appears, I think of the actor from “The Sensorites”, “Evil of the Daleks”, and “The Horns of Nimon”. Every single time.

CLOSE! I ran my third-fastest-ever Parkrun today. I take consolation from this being my fastest in almost nine years and that I'm competing with my fifty-year old self when I'm nearly sixty. I'm not leaving this here. I'm going to keep swinging at it until it's done. #loveparkrun

Nine weeks’ training complete. Tomorrow, I’m going to try to run my fastest ever Parkrun, in under 21:32, by running around 4:10/km. It feels impossible. We’ll see.

When I co-organised @scottishgreens.org annual conference in 2014 a few weeks after indyref, we had the same challenge. It’s a good problem to have, but hits volunteers and providers hard.

So I said to him, “Mate, I’d love to see Tony Levin, and the drummer from The Who swap instruments just once” and he said “Moon on a stick!”, and I said, “Yes, that is correct.”

5K PB attempt training cycle 5/7 complete. 6 runs, 43 miles, taking 6hr19min. With just under 3 weeks to go, my stats are finally improving. VO2max rising, and predicted race times dropping. 30 track circuits at Meadowbank this morning in my new budget carbon racers actually felt fantastic.

Last night's soul-crushing viewing was "Red Riding : 1980". Scant light relief came, whenever David Morrissey's character appeared, from shouting "Hello Jackie! Shalom! Wilson!"

I posted earlier about attempting a 5K Time Trial today. Some of you may find the phrase "5K Time Trial" unsettling, as did I. It's like one of those greco-latin bastard portmanteaus. (5K is, of course, the production code for "Nightmare of Eden", as any fule kno.)

5K PB training cycle 4 of seven complete. 8 days, 6 runs, 38 miles in 5 hrs 53 mins. I covered roads, canal towpaths, and two different 400m outdoor running tracks. I'm finally beginning to feel the positive effects of these last five weeks.

Gosh. Rush have announced a short 50th anniversary tour for next summer. Like Spinal Tap, they're addressing the drummer situation by hiring a woman (Anika Nilles) and say they'll be also hiring a keyboard player.

Accelerations run today demanded I ramp up from easy to heart-bursting-out-of-chest twice, for eleven, then six minutes. What to listen to? Easy, if you're an old Genesis fan. "The Musical Box" and "Can-Utility and the Coastliners" each build from acoustic 12-string folk to all-out pomp bombast.

I'd lapsed in my meditation with all the busyness of the summer months, but recently followed the "back to school" cues of Autumn to diligently resume. It's started "working" again very quickly. I was staring with utter delight at clouds for minutes on end yesterday.
